The GAA should consider playing this year's Allianz Hurling League final at an Ulster venue. Met loads of families in Newry today - parents with hurling mad children saying they rarely get a chance to bring them to a top level hurling game in the province.
No charge for match programme in Parnell Park today. Supporters asked instead to put some change into a donation bucket for St. Francis Hospice. Hopefully this will start in other counties as well.
Biggest crowd in years at a gaelic football match in Derry city last night. Sold-out crowd of 12,077 saw Derry beat Dublin by 1 point. Brilliant to see so many young people in their Derry gear at the game.
An Ulster final replay at a packed stadium next weekend might have done more for the promotion of gaelic football than 24 matches to eliminate 4 teams. Next sell-out game in Clones probably 12 months away.
Today was Ireland's hottest day for 42 years. Hopefully common sense will prevail and the GAA will allow water breaks for players in this weekend's championship matches.
Great to hear about the excitement in Antrim ahead of their SHC game against Cork in Belfast on Saturday. There should be at least one major hurling championship game played in Ulster every year.
There will be an 'Up for the Match' ahead of Sunday's TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football finals!
Ceiliúradh Peil na mBan, presented by Máire Ní Bhraonáin, will air at 8.55pm on Saturday on TG4. Reports from all six counties, music and interviews with former players.
A genuine privilege to be part of the RTÉ team in Donnybrook tonight covering Ireland’s historic victory. Special credit to our programme editor
@ElaineBucko
Davy Fitzgerald swopped the bainisteoir bib for the microphone for today's All-Ireland final! Thanks to all our analysts for their expertise during an exciting hurling championship. Roll on 2024.
For a whole generation of Laois people, Sue Ramsbottom was our sporting hero. Will never forget the emotion of that day in Croke Park in 2001 when they finally won an All-Ireland 💙🤍🏆
#LaochraGael
You could feel the love and respect for Pat Critchley through the television. A beautiful, emotional trip down memory lane with one of our great sporting heroes in Laois
#laochragael
Wonder will financial reality bite at some point for the GAA. They've missed out on replays of Munster hurling final (45k sellout) Ulster football final (29k sellout) and Armagh v Galway. After two seasons of Covid disruption, that's a lot of additional income to wipe off.
Disappointing news that the Ulster SHC is being discontinued. Covered some brilliant finals between Antrim and Down in Casement Park. Big crowds, epic battles and a sense of occasion to match any provincial final. Should never have been allowed to decline and disappear.
Anybody looking to join a GAA club in Dublin, we’d love to have you at Stars of Erin. We’ve started a winter training programme gym and HIIT training Monday and ball work Thursday. An excellent management team headed by James Oliver. DM for details.
Irish Greyhound Derby will be back on terrestrial television this year. Virgin Media will broadcast live coverage from Shelbourne Park of the semi-finals (Sept 17th) and final (Sept 24th)
Dublin's 1961 All-Ireland hurling finalists will be honoured at half time in Saturday's county final in Parnell Park. They will be led on to the pitch by a lone piper and then Jerry Grogan will read a short citation on each player.
That’s a wrap for our Sunday Sport Allianz League coverage. Always a thrill to describe the big games alongside the esteemed Brian Carthy. Back with the championship on May 5th.
A pleasure to bring the drama of 133rd Munster hurling final to
@RTERadio1
alongside Shane McGrath, John Mullane and Adrian Eames. A thrilling end to a brilliant Munster championship.
Semple Stadium pitch was in outstanding shape today and contributed to a really good Munster final. Would be great to see more major football games played in Thurles.
Last Saturday's Go Ahead Dublin SHC final between Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes was watched by an average audience of 152,000 viewers on RTÉ 2. A 14% share of those watching TV at the time.
Close to 5,000 fans at Kildare v Laois in O'Byrne Cup last Wednesday night in Carlow. Shows there is an audience for midweek inter-county games, especially between neighbouring counties.
Really struck by the empty terraces at most football championship games today. Respectable crowds but disappointing that more people aren’t attending the fixtures.
Great to spend time before throw-in today with
@Carlow_GAA
stalwart Tommy Murphy, stepping down after 33 years of unbroken service on the County Board.
A sad day for the RTÉ family with the death of our much loved colleague Marian Finucane. Marian was a giant of Irish broadcasting and is simply irreplaceable. Thinking tonight of John, Jack and the late Sinead. RIP Marian.
Disappointing news for GAA fans in Dublin. Even in this online age, lots of people bought the Herald on Tuesdays for match reports, photos, features, fixtures, tables and club notes.
So sad to hear that The Herald's Dublin GAA supplement on Tuesdays has been discontinued. I've had 15 wonderful years being involved and have loved every minute of it. Many thanks to all those that helped me and I'm eternally grateful for the friendships I have made. Up the Dubs
Word around UPMC Nowlan Park today was of a strong push from clubs for GAA to review its decision not to stage 2020 provincial and All-Ireland club championships.
Always a joy to broadcast from Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney. Would be great to see a Munster hurling final or an All-Ireland hurling quarter-final staged there.

Delighted to hear about Joanne Cantwell's elevation to the role of Sunday Game Live presenter. I have no doubt that she will put her own stamp on one of the most prestigious roles in Irish broadcasting.
First league promotion in 12 years secured under new manager James Oliver, and an away championship win to round off the season 💪Stars of Erin will soon be looking for new players for 2023 campaign. Details coming soon.

Sad to hear about the death of BBC commentator John Motson, who commentated on 29 FA Cup finals. He also worked at 10 World Cups and 10 European Championships. In a 2017 interview, he said ''It's no coincidence that all the best football commentators have come through radio''.

Today's Lidl Ladies National Football League game between Roscommon and Wexford was delayed by over half an hour due to confusion over the venue. Both teams were in Elphin, but the referee went to Kiltoom.
