So, today I got to ring the bell to mark the end of my acute cancer treatment. Thank you
@NHSuk
and to everybody who has supported me on this challenging journey!
Compare and contrast. Which of these men would you rather have representing us on the world stage.
@Keir_Starmer
pitch perfect this evening. Sincere, statesmanlike and as ever, thoroughly decent
So, it has now been confirmed that I have breast cancer, following discovery of a lump. My treatment plan will be determined after a few more tests. Yes I’m scared but I’m gonna kick cancer’s a**e! Please, please examine your breasts and see a GP if anything seems unusual x
Just been to hospital for results, THEY GOT IT ALL AND IT HADN’T SPREAD! Still need further treatment to avoid recurrence. I cannot thank my surgeon Mr Sowdi and the Breast Cancer Team
@MidYorkshireNHS
enough, they were beyond phenomenal. CHECK YOUR BREASTS (PLEASE!)
I fully understand that some will disagree with this decision however I have a moral duty to protect those I represent and I unequivocally believe that a no-deal exit would bring about unprecedented and severe turmoil to my constituents. I am not prepared to do that
Rather galling to see
@RishiSunak
& Govt take credit for abolition of the tampon tax today. He & 98% of his colleagues voted against the opportunity to scrap it on 26 Oct ‘15. It was a
@UKLabour
campaign in collaboration w/

and other activists. Tories gonna Tory
I underwent a full spectrum of cancer treatment wearing a face mask at all times, even during radiotherapy. It was uncomfortable & hindered communication but was necessary. It’s deeply offensive and insulting, not to mention dangerous, that our PM displays such blatant disregard
I am truly devastated. Sir David, it was my privilege to have got to know you in Parliament. I will never forget the laughter and camaraderie we shared, the kindness hoy showed me - vastly different politics but so much in common. Today, my heart is broken 💔
Great news! Latest scan showed N.E.D. (no evidence of disease). Scan showed that large lump in my armpit on cancer side were benign lobules,
….and breathe!
When my Tory successor was elected,
@amessd_southend
rang to tell me that he introduced himself to him and told him I’d be a hard act to follow 🤣We’ve kept in touch since + he was a great support when I was diagnosed w/cancer. He is a man of faith + I am praying for him
I genuinely thought Johnson would have spent some time rehearsing for this session but he is frankly being handed his arse on a plate. Completely out of his depth and not nearly fit for the job
#LiaisonCommittee
@allisonpearson
Or you could look at it another way Allison; she has overcome great adversity and despite not achieving academic brilliance at school, has excelled in her current role. Her story will inspire many who, for a plethora of reasons, did not achieve their desired exam results
Many Tory MP’s are pointing and laughing at

I was privileged to be elected as the MP for Dewsbury in 2015, alas 2019 was not meant to be. The only comment I want to make today is to pay tribute to my phenomenal staff team, who ALWAYS went the extra mile in supporting constituents, particularly the most vulnerable
A heartfelt plea ahead of tomorrow; Whatever happens, please can we all make an extra special effort to understand that many MP’s have literally agonised over their decision making and NOT ONE is a ‘traitor’ or an ‘enemy.’ Lets be kind to each other, please 🙏🏼
What is Tory MP Christopher Chope thinking of? Today he blocked bills on 1) Making 'upskirting' a crime 2) Longer sentencing for those attacking Police animals 3) Safer use of restraint in mental health units. All had cross party support and he should be ashamed
When I was diagnosed, I promised myself a
#fuckcancer
holiday if I managed to beat the damn thing. Tonight I’ve booked to go to New York 🍎 with my sis! Feels very sweet, bring it on!
@MissleeCarlisle
Exactly a year ago today, I had a mastectomy after the discovery of a large cancer in my left breast. Today I am heading to the same hospital for my first post-treatment mammogram. I’m so grateful to the NHS and particularly the wonderful Breast Cancer Team at
@MidYorkshireNHS
Spend this afternoon having this beauty done. The bird is a tit (inference intentional) and the ribbon is the breast cancer symbol.
My survivors tattoo!
@amandamilling
@Keir_Starmer
@AngelaRayner
I don’t ever condone threats to MP’s, Amanda. I do think you have underestimated the public feeling abt your party’s decision to leave vulnerable children hungry. I hope, in light of this letter, that you reflect on your Leaders response of ‘humbug’ when I raised death threats
I had my mastectomy surgery yest-so far I’m doing ok& pain is well-controlled. Despite

it’s imperative that you still seek advice if you’re concerned about possible symptoms of cancer. Thanks to phenomenal Breast Cancer Team at

A thread at the start of Mental Health Awareness Week... Six months ago this week my mental health took a knock like never before. I lost my dream job, the role that gave me a purpose in life-a job I breathed, ate and slept for every second of the day. I was beyond devastated....
Proud moment. I asked
@asda
to use the packaging on their own brand menstrual products to deliver health messages to women. They agreed and have now hit the shelves! Politicians and business working together

@APPG_WH
My parents and sister live in the City you’re referring to and whilst they of course welcome the opening of a new Cancer Unit, they’re intrigued as to where the ‘new’ hospital you refer to is located. Can you advise, Sajid?

real life memoirs - it isn’t merely a drama designed to sensationalise
Made painful, yet necessary viewing - how could we ever pay our debt of gratitude to those NHS heroes who made so many personal sacrifices.
I am pleased I made the decision earlier this year to leave this sh1thole in anticipation of a
@SadiqKhan
victory. He has turned this once great city into a violent ghetto.
I look forward to spending my days in what remains of this green and pleasant land from July.
I will not
I knew my MP would faithfully toe the party line come what may, but to find he voted against implementing the Grenfell inquiry recommendations makes me feel sick. Meeting Grenfell survivors will stay with me forever and I’m so sorry that they continue to be let down
#notinmyname
If this doesn’t make you smile....my neighbour’s little boys pulled the weeds out of my back garden (there were quite a lot!) for me when I was in hospital and made me this card ❤️❤️❤️

If air strikes had to occur last night then PM should have recalled Parliament to achieve a mandate, no ifs or buts. She must now explain on Monday how this action contributes to a wider strategy to protect civilians and achieve peace in the region
This week, instead of joining neighbours on our street I’ll be clapping from my bed. Thank you all our NHS/Care Workers and if I may, a personal thank you today to my surgeon Mr Sowdi and Gates 22 and 40 at Pinderfields Hospital

That’s 36 devastated families who mourn their loved ones, taken too soon. 36 families who have to decide who will say a final goodbye due to funeral restrictions. It’s so much more than ‘only 36 deaths’
@MattHancock
Penultimate radiotherapy today (I had the 5x intense course). A bit red/sore but not too bad (I understand worst comes abt 2 wks post-treatment). Developed a real appreciation of how technical the process is + despite COVID, the team at
@LeedsHospitals
have been blooming great!
1st radiotherapy done! In true Sherriff style, there were a few initial technical issues with the machine but the treatment itself is painless-the hard part is keeping totally still and getting into the right position as it’s so precise. Thanks to lovely staff at
@LeedsHospitals
Yesterday, I called out Jacob Rees-Mogg for laying down on the job & refusing to help the women whose lives have been blighted by changes to their State Pension Age. WASPI women deserve recognition for the wrong they have suffered & compensation for their losses.
This time last year I was unaware I had a large, cancerous tumour growing in my left breast. Almost a year on, I’m doing ok (it’s ok to be ok!) To the Surgeons, the Nurses, the researchers, the heroes who constantly strive and battle to beat cancer - THANK YOU
#WorldCancerDay
So very sad, taken far too young. Today, I start intense radiotherapy for breast cancer. I was diagnosed at 44, this awful disease doesn’t just affect older women, please, please check your breasts. It could save your life. If you’re unsure how to do it, visit

Actor Kelly Preston dies from breast cancer aged 57. Her husband of 29 years, John Travolta, says she ‘fought a courageous fight with the love and support of many’.

Truly horrified & upset to watch the terrible scenes outside Parliament this evening. What is happening to our country?
@BorisJohnson
- this is on you, and for those Ministers preparing to defend him on the broadcast round, remember ‘you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas’
Thank you to lovely
@RosieDuffield1
for my beautiful flowers 💐 This time next week my surgery will have been done and I hope I’ll be starting my journey to recovery from cancer
Thank you to all our Dewsbury CLP wards and affiliates for your unanimous support. It is a privilege to represent you in Parliament and I look forward to fighting for a government for the many alongside you.
On this day in 1997: aged 22, lived in the socialist republic of Harrogate. Had stayed up all night and Mum kept telling me off for keeping the house awake by whooping as results came in. The euphoria was palpable, so much hope. Can’t wait to see
@UKLabour
in Government again
This can only be described as a masterclass in journalism/interviewing from
@mrjamesob
Yet another Tory unwilling to recognise Islamophobia in the Tory party.
It ain’t a zero sum game. Islamophobia & anti semitism (along with all other forms of racism) are equally as abhorrent
‘You rang in to complain that everyone’s talking about Islamophobia…'
In this wild exchange,
@mrjamesob
speaks to this Jewish Tory councillor who says, 'Western people in the UK cannot raise anti-Semitism without raising Islamophobia at the same time'.
A proud Dewsbury lass, and a truly formidable woman who shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for so many women in politics. Rest In Power, Betty Boothroyd
2020 was the toughest year of my life & largely defined by my cancer diagnosis/treatment. I’m so grateful for the love & support of family and friends & for our amazing NHS, partic
@MidYorkshireNHS
&
@LeedsHospitals
.
Happy New Year to all, especially those working to keep us safe
Cummings admits his eyesight was ‘weird’. Clearly, the most obvious thing to do is get in the car (with your 4 yo child) for a half hour journey (at the wheel). We’d all do that, right? Unbelievable, literally
I’m eternally grateful to the Malaysian radiologist who detected my cancer, the Indian surgeon who removed it/saved my life and the plethora of European nurses who nursed me back to health. Shame on you
@didoharding
- I wouldn’t trust you to run a bath, never mind the NHS!
This was my office. For now, we mourn our lovely friend, David Amess but it is patently clear that different Police services offer an inconsistent approach in dealing with threats to MP’s and this must change. Death threats are never funny
One of the death threats that was made against an MP I was working for & our team was responded to by the police by laughing at the message left. They thought the death threat -that we would all be shot- following Jo being shot & swastikas being left at our staff door, was witty.
Principled, passionate and showing great love for his city and it’s people;
@AndyBurnhamGM
once again showing phenomenal leadership. Contrasted with utter contempt from Johnson, Jenrick et al, the North will remember
Tory MP’s (including my own) sunk far lower than I ever gave them credit for last night. Voting against feeding hungry kids? Never in my name. No doubt, they’ll appear soon smiling outside their local food bank. ‘A strong voice for Dewsbury’-don’t make me laugh!
Oh please. Spare me the ‘Easter blessings’ tweets from Tory MP’s. Ain’t nothing Christian or remotely charitable about plunging the most vulnerable into poverty and planning to send desperate refugees to Rwanda.
Meaningless platitudes of the worst kind
A very happy 90th birthday to the phenomenal Baroness Betty Boothroyd, who made history as the first – & to date, only – woman Speaker. She is a Dewsbury lass through & through, & I speak for all people in Dewsbury when I say, Betty, we are proud to share our town with you.
Wonder if any Tory MPs will watch
#IDanielBlake
tonight? Suspect not, but in any case, they’ll say it’s fiction. Let me be crystal clear, I’ve seen many cases just like the film depicts and this Government will go down in history for its vilification of the vulnerable
Impressive stuff from
@AndyBurnhamGM
today. Unequivocally standing up for the people he represents, GM can feel very proud of their Mayor. He’s absolutely right in saying that the North is being held in contempt by this Government
@mariacaulfield
This really is an offensive tweet Maria. I choose to wear a poppy, some don't but they may honour our war dead in other ways. Please retract
Repeat after me…
We must not be complacent

"Compassionate conservatism" is officially dead, if it even existed at all.
I asked the DWP to look at the case of one of my constituents who has been turned down for PIP, despite living with a life-limiting illness which affects most everyday activities.
When I first started talking abt period poverty, some people mocked (mainly Tories tbf). There is now wide acceptance that it is worth campaigning for & I’m proud to see my local Asda install a red box instore

This is beyond painful. The
@Conservatives
press office must have their heads in hands. There is clearly a reason why Johnson *cannot* sack Cummings and one can only assume it would also end Johnson’s career
Absolutely this. The dignity shown by Richard Ratcliffe and his family has been deeply moving. They have been so badly let down and I dream of the day that he, Nazanin and Gabriella are finally reunited
I try to be a ‘glass half-full’ but there is no escaping that this feels a v dark day in the history of our great nation. It’s hard to think of any other individual manifestly less suitable for high office. I will oppose his bigotry, his offensiveness with every fibre of my being
