@abcnews, N2O is still used in medicine. Whilst your article discusses the legitimate risks of abuse, it does not mention that N2O is still widely used in anaesthesia and pain relief.

This is a start for the day routine that has been adopted in a Portuguese hospital from an Italian hospital. It has been very popular with everyone, and is apparently very helpful for anxious patients.

Hi David. I appreciate your take. As you have been told, this is safe and effective. As it is self-administered it has a built-in failsafe. We also use it in the military. Yes, halogenated volatiles are bad for the environment, but I don’t know how bad 3mL of methoxyflurane is.
I thought this was a joke but apparently methoxyflurane inhalers are very much in use. What's next? Chloroform-soaked rags?
