Big milestone for an impactful tool that connects climate and public health. It's great to see how far this has come and encourage people to play around, even with hypothetical data.
NEW TOOL: For first time, our CoBE tool is available to the public. You can use it to *quantify* the climate and health co-benefits of your energy conservation measures in buildings. Peer-reviewed paper, FAQs, case study, and the tool here: https://t.co/y4wo5TZhgX

Great primer on @view_inc_ smart windows on CBS. Check it out 👇
With energy costs up nearly 16% over last year due to inflation, businesses are looking at ways to save money, and they may have found it with smart glass. Now, “smart windows” are allowing buildings to use less electricity for heating and cooling.

Brighter days make for better night. New research from @IcahnMountSinai shared at @Greenbuild shows that we sleep 16 minutes longer when we get more daylight access during the day.

Very excited to see the results from 3rd #COGfxstudy come out! Great work by @cedenolaurent, @anna_s_young, @emgilsonjones, @j_g_allen et al. Better filtration, better ventilation aren't just good COVID solutions, but have cognitive benefits even in buildings considered good.
The benefits of better ventilation and filtration extend beyond COVID-19. Our latest study on cognitive function is out: ⬇️CO2 (ie good ventilation) and⬇️*indoor* PM2.5 -->⬆️cognitive function scores #thecogfxstudy 🧵

Our multi country study on indoor air and cognitive function is finally out. Big takeaway: increases in PM2.5 and CO2 concentrations were sig. associated with acute reductions in cognitive function. Here’s how we (@j_g_allen @anna_s_young @p_macnaughton et al) did it:

Newest paper from the #cogfx study by @anna_s_young. Chemical exposure in offices driven by: 1) local regulations 2) what building you work in 3) what personal care products you use

I think displays with CO2 levels in public buildings are a great idea, as done in Japan (which also promoted the very effective 3Cs), although I would target 800 ppm or lower. Could color code like the air quality index.
Now I hope the US can start to make wise choices in how to reopen and stay open. Japan has some nice ideas. Simple measurements are possible. We can do this. Screens showing CO2 level set up at venues to lessen virus risk : The Asahi Shimbun

Is Crossfit the first business to recommend CO2 monitoring? (I'm helping advise.) I have been surprised at how little we need to crack the doors open to stay below 600 ppm. We should be doing this in schools and workplaces, in addition to masks + distancing + hygiene.

👇 When I started my PhD I switched from my masters advisor, who was a titan in the field, to be first student of first year prof. Made all the difference in my career, and both have been invaluable mentors
I give students the exact opposite advice— work with the junior faculty, who have fresh ideas and a lot of energy and are committed to making your PhD a success!!
