Excited to share that it's my 2nd week as a postdoc in Laura Parfrey's lab within the #SentinelsOfChange project with @UBCBotany in #Vancouver & @HakaiInstitute on #QuadraIsland in 🇨🇦😊. I'm investigating #kelp and their #microbiome under climate change conditions 🕵🏽‍♀️🌊🌱🦠🌡️

Living space is provided by 3 morpho-fuctional compartments, with greatest abundance and biomass associated with holdfasts. Invertebrates belong to nine phyla and 28 coarse taxonomic groups, with mollusca/gastropods being most dominant. 🐌🐚 Key grazers are blue-rayed limpets.

We recorded a total of 40,046 inverts on 180 intertidal and subtidal sporophytes. In summer, S. polyschides holdfasts support even higher faunal abundance than Laminaria hyperborea! However, habitat provision is only short-lived & not persistent due to Spoly's annual lifecycle⚠️
