Why this matters:.✅ EVE-Vax doesn’t require patient sera, large-scale sequencing, or anitbody-antigen structures .✅ Can be applied before an outbreak.✅ Scalable to other viruses beyond SARS-CoV-2.We see this as a blueprint for proactive vaccine evaluation. (6/7).

Results: EVE-Vax designs closely resembled real variants that emerged later in the pandemic—both in infectivity and immune escape. In head-to-head comparisons, our designs matched or outperformed those based on deep mutational scan data. (5/7)

Proof-of-concept: We used EVE-Vax to design SARS-CoV-2 Spike proteins at different points in the pandemic. With our experimental collaborators (@LubanLab, Lemieux and Seaman lab), we tested for infectivity and antibody escape using safe, non-replicative pseudotyped viruses. (4/7)

The problem: Current vaccine testing is mostly reactive—we test against past or present viral strains. But by the time vaccines roll out, dominant variants may have changed. That’s led to a mismatch problem for viruses like SARS-CoV-2 and flu. (2/7)
