“You already have your federal government saying to immigrants, you know, ‘you don’t belong here.’ And now you have your city government saying, ‘And we’re not gonna support you.’” —@amanduhgomez Cuts are coming to D.C.’s city-funded healthcare program:

The pedestrian safety in DC is absolutely horrendous, a much more pressing issue in many people’s day to day than many other things that are focused on in the city. I know like a handful of people who have been hit by cars in this city
This is awful. It’s also terrible to know we see dozens of drivers capable of this in our neighborhoods daily. They’re not hiding it.

This was me and my friend and we are traumatized. @CMZParker5 the past week, there have been cars racing around the neighborhood trying to hit people on bikes. We called 911 but no one came, even though I know there are cops parked at Alethia Tanner doing nothing.

The D.C. real estate industry's more than half a million in independent expenditures in the November general election pushing a bunch of lies is really going to pay off for them today.

It’s a bit rich to hear @ChmnMendelson saying that going back on the Council’s word to sunset a tax on developers is wrong, when our leaders don’t seem to have a problem backtracking on promised support to excluded workers or removing police from schools.
Budget news: Progressive groups, led by @FairBudgetDC, are pushing for the delay of a planned tax break on land deals that could generate $104M in revenue. @ZacharyforWard5 is gearing up to introduce at Tuesday's first Council vote on the budget. Deets: https://t.co/OXW4KMg8lG

ICYMI: Each year, DC loses out on $3.2 billion because it isn't a state. That money is slightly more than what the District’s spent on schools in FY 2021. New from @EricaWilli and Nikki Metzgar:

I know Axios specializes in short pieces but it's still disappointing to see this coverage 1) without any quote from an Asian person or org and 2) lots of police stats but no digging into why "marginalized groups" are wary of the police and don't report
axios.com
A recent study found that D.C. had the highest number of hate crimes reported by police per 1000,000 people in 2021.

What happens if an employee gets COVID after April 2?
In a message to D.C. government employees today, the city's head of HR says it will now offer paid leave for workers who have to isolate because they are positive for COVID-19. Every employee gets 80 hours of leave through April 2. Details: https://t.co/tmWLECXAEU

Instead of saying that if we can’t stand the heat, we should get out of the kitchen, perhaps we should be asking, “Does the kitchen have to be that hot?” @olgakhazan reports on burnout, and what to do about it:

As Gov. Abbott lifts TX statewide mask mandate & allows businesses to fully reopen, reminder that he departed from CDC recommendation that frontline workers be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccine. Those who will have to interact w/ unmasked people in crowded spaces are not eligible.
