@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc All workers dream of having a better “quality of life,” just like we do. They are parents, mothers, aunts, sisters, and siblings. For many of them, becoming a migrant is not only about survival, but also a courageous form of care.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc Many send all their earnings home to support their families in China. Some workers have to work on the streets because their online soliciting platforms were shut down, and they couldn’t work in private anymore.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc Some workers left their bankrupt businesses or abusive relationships in China to seek a new life here. Many workers moved across multiple borders to get here. Some workers are in debt. Some workers are proud of doing sex work and think that it’s an intimate act of care.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc These savior narratives dehumanize sex and massage workers, either by victimizing them as human trafficking victims, or by demonizing them. We want to shift this narrative and share the realities of many workers in our community.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc Last Tuesday, Mayor Adams made a bold promise to set a 90-day target to “clean up the plagued Roosevelt Avenue,” framing it as operations for “quality-of-life.” In addition, Assemblymember Moya is introducing two new bills to further criminalize massage work via licensing.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc Over the past year, workers in our community have seen increasing police raids, daily harassment, and sting operations. Together with other city agencies, the police charge into parlors and shut them down.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc RCS condemns the raids ordered by Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams in Jackson Heights, targeting Asian massage and sex workers, as well as the Black, Latine, and transgender sex workers and street vendors. They are trying to divide us, but we need to stand in solidarity to survive.

@CITGny @centrocorona @apichachc We all believe that full decriminalization of sex work is necessary for the safety and survival of massage and sex workers, and that policing and raids are not solutions to safety.

Over the past few years, we have been building a worker-led mutual aid network in North Corona and Jackson Heights. Working closely with local fellow organizations; such as @CITGny, @centrocorona, and @apichachc among others.
