Yesterday a fantastic student of mine who graduated about 6 years ago popped into my mind with no real reason. I reflected on how amazing it was to have a chance to teach them. This morning I woke up to an email from said student, who said the same about me. Feeling grateful.

@timothysykes @nickaology @nowhitesaviors @karmagawa problem w/ documentaries by charitable orgs is that they’re totally biased. It’s not to say there’s no good but rather like all branding they’re set up to demonstrate the activities in best possible light w/o soliciting honest feedback or partnership with ppl on the ground

Today is the 3rd anniversary of the murder of my brother. I still miss him. Common sense #GunRegulation works.

#BigPharma re-patents, ⬆️ insulin price. Diabetics ration b/c can't afford drug. Pharma co's: "we have a help line, just call us". Ppl who can't afford it often have multiple jobs. They don't have time, and shouldn't have to beg for own lives just so Big Pharma can ⬆️ profit

Create a scaffolding you build on--an hourglass (general to specific data/cases to its significance) can be a decent strategy to try. This provides context allowing readers to better appreciate the novelty of your data or analysis. /11

@DrHelenHanna @AcademicChatter While I get that journals expect submissions to conform to their own linguistic style, differences in linguistic style are NEVER a reason to reject a paper. I might consider pushing back with editor if the other comments are also minor.

Last night the Muslim folks at encampment held their sundown prayers, then Jewish students explained and celebrated a Passover Seder. Earlier, Native faculty, community members and students sang and danced. Yiddish anti-war songs were sung.

Thrilled to announce an article I wrote with @mgmarten is forthcoming in @socscimed on effects of #austerity and #neoliberal approaches to health financing on hospitals in Tanzania. There's an amazing case about European wedding gowns in it, check it out!

Please everyone wish Happy Birthday to my Grandma, who turns 98 today! She's a remarkable person, and I haven't been able to see her in nearly 2 years. Hoping the border to Canada opens soon so I can give her a big hug!

@ZoBean5 @RepKatiePorter Wait until you learn we pay exponentially more than any other country in health care services. And have poorer health outcomes than any other high income country in the world.

@indigovenice @britta_holden @nowhitesaviors White supremacists & systematic white supremacy are different things. One is overt & tied to extremist individuals. The other is pervasive & many of us participate without necessarily knowing how. It’s the latter form that is so insidious, & is what this conversation is about.

@savannahshange Amazing work and congrats for setting up such a platform that would enable them to engage in this wAy! I tried ungrading and unessays this term and it was the deepest engagement I’ve ever encountered, through the entire term. I don’t think I will ever go back.

Today I concluded my "Beyond Porn: Sexuality, health & pleasure" class @NorthwesternU . Thankful to students who told me what the course meant to them. So many mentioned how they'd been talking about the content with peers, family members, etc. These courses really matter.

@notcapnamerica Dear fellow white ppl responding "not all white people," pls read book #WhiteFragility , amplify voices of POC & allies highlighting exs of white supremacy going unnoticed & unaddressed, so we can recognize & do something about it instead of 🤷‍♀️ while saying "not all white ppl"
