I'm struggling to focus. Switching tech stacks again, lacking deep work time, neglecting workouts, unable to come up with app ideas, and more.
Living in a van with my wife adds complexity, but I think I’m missing something.
Time for change.
Perhaps I should take
So fast to ship an idea these days: My modified ShipFast stack JavaScript/NextJS/Vercel/Vercel Postgres/Vercel Blob/Resend/NextAuth/TailwindUI/Stripe/GitHub/VS Code/Copilot
I wrote up how I switched from Mailgun to Resend in the ShipFast boilerplate template. Nothing complicated. Takes about 15 minutes per app to make the switch and I'm pretty happy with Resend.

Have you seen the guy on TikTok (Caden Boof) who tests side hustles? He did vending machines, car flipping, etc. I’m not sure he’s done ice machines.
Switched one of my apps from ShipFast MongoDB to ShipFast Supabase in about 2 hours. Pretty painless to switch and I like SQL better and MongoDB Atlas was having timeouts.
@yongfook
I find this in every restaurant, coffee shop and even public libraries I work at. Full on phone calls on speaker phone or watching TikTok videos on full speaker.
Something changed in the last 3 years.
I can find endless ways to procrastinate.
I just bought the DaisyUI dashboard template to see how they did the sidebar. And I added sidebars to all my apps a few days ago.
Truth is, none of my apps need sidebars.
Some days, I struggle to stay motivated to work on my previous apps.
But when a Stripe notification comes in, I get reenergized. I just need this to happen a bit more often.
I like using a template because it makes me focus more on the messages and less on minutiae of CSS. Now I need to update the messages I have here and apparently the meta bits too.
When I bought the MacBook Pro last year, I knew it had great battery life but I didn't think much of it.
After working from McDonald's, Panera, Planet Fitness, and public libraries for the past 9 months, it has become my favorite feature.
Tomorrow we start our 26 hour drive home. Sounds like a lot but we have 23 days to get there.
Every day will likely be 1 hour drive, 4 hours deep work, 4 hours exploring.
Tomorrow I’ll update my other 2 apps to the ShipFast template. That’ll put all my apps back on the same footing. Have I finally learned that the framework doesn’t matter to anyone but me?
I can't decide if moving from MongoDB to Postgres is more trouble than learning nosql. I already know SQL so there's no learning curve to Postgres, but moving data is painful.
Decided to keep going with Hey email. I previously setup all my other accounts through it and now I’m moving my email archive from Fastmail to iCloud. Then I’ll cancel Fastmail’s renewal.
Added simple filtering for my expired domain name tool. I went brute force and sent 2k domains to the browser and filter with input onChange.
I put this off a long time thinking I would have to build an API. Works good enough.
Looking to create pages for my app with guides, info, and SEO content. I want to avoid markdown, so I'm checking out options like Sanity, Feather, WordPress, etc. Always looking for new tools to make my life easier.
I've been collecting historical temperature data for places across the US. I use these data points to figure out places with nice temperatures to travel to. Today I'm at 112,720 data points in MongoDB Atlas costing me $0. I use these in my app
Okay I’m going to mesh this and

‘s class on starting. Step 1: I bought a domain to use as a test. Step 2: I threw up a site on Carrd though it needs a lot of work. Updating on 𝕏 as I go. Name & idea:
My favorite process to validate a startup idea:
- build an extremely simple proof of concept in a weekend
- record a demo video
- put it on a simple landing page
- share it with potential customers (drive traffic to the website)
- accept pre-order if I’m confident with the
@MeetKevon
I always feel like these are automated and it doesn't feel real. A lot even ask for a response to that initial email and I figure they won't ever read it.
How do you make it feel more real?
My monthly expenses for creating and releasing apps to the world. These are all optional services, so I could potentially be running close to $0.
- Vercel: $20
- Plausible: $10
- GitHub Copilot: $10
- Vercel Storage: $3
- Render: $3
Total: $46 per month
Today’s task is to find a new idea to work on. This is the hardest part for me.
I think it’s because I’m old and I’ve either worked out issues I’ve had or I think a solution would be too big instead of just jumping in
Decided to just keep working with NextJS. So much less daily frustration in working with something I’m already used to. I don’t have any real issues with the framework at this point.
I'm sitting here writing a list of problems that solopreneurs have so I can find one to solve.
Then I realized I answer a *lot* of questions in the ShipFast Discord. I can probably data mine those and find the common issues everyone is having.
So far I think my site built with NextJS and Supabase is superior to the one I built in Bubble. Same functionality and about the same work but I have more control, lower price and much faster site than the no-code solution.

I bought it for the same season - was hoping it would solve my procrastination. I wasn’t even going to join the Discord (cause 1 more thing to check). The community is worth more now than the template.
I wrote about the next step in creating a ShipFast application - Setting up MongoDB Atlas. I walk through the setup step by step with lots of screenshots.

I would have thought YouTube hit its peak for BiP a few years ago. Wasn't it supposed to be TikTok now? I wish there was an easier way to find BiP YouTubers.
VanLife costs for January 2024. We unexpectedly had to drive FL to NM to WY to FL so that added to fuel and eating out. February is looking much cheaper.
Great work day today:
- Updated my app with screen recordings instead of static images
- Added a feedback button
- Did a bunch of support on the ShipFast Discord
- Changed my cron jobs to render
- Posted and replied on 𝕏 (cross post to LinkedIn)
