I spent today in St George’s School in Blackpool with @TheTeacher6. This school is achieving astonishing things and has a wonderful culture. The thing that stands out about the school more than anything is how warm it is, and how polite the children are! 🧵

One half term in and I’m loving it. Astrea Academy Woodfields is dedicated to continuous professional development - I’m proud to be shaping a CPD programme that puts staff learning at the heart of what we do. Investing in our people means better outcomes for our scholars.
Last but not least, @n_setterington joined us in September to run teaching and learning. She has implemented @Steplab_co, oversees our early career teachers and new starters, and is responsible for cover each day alongside line management and staff training.

Vikki Southall is supporting staff to know their class context and how adjustments should be applied within the house style. Our ‘Feed Forward’ booklets structure active observation and ensure that knowledge gaps are identified and addressed, and individual need is met.

Our best ever attended holiday revision season. Starting with our residential, followed by daily sessions. Business studies now, geography later. Nearly half the cohort in for maths yesterday! 💪🏻

We’re extremely lucky to have Julie as part of our Pastoral Team and AAW community! She’s such a supportive Pastoral Year Leader who has so much knowledge about the scholars! Thank you Julie for supporting me in my first HT at Woodfields 👏🏼
The thing about Julie, is that she cares deeply about the children and this community. She thinks about the issues at hand and gives helpful advice and suggestions. Scholars value the time she spends with them as she helps them to be their best selves.

Big congratulations to our scholar president Sara who soon comes to the end of her tenure. She has made public speeches to thousands of people and represented the views of the scholars with such grace and passion. @AAWoodfields is grateful and wishes her success!

Situation is not helped when stable, over-subscribed schools deliberately go over PAN, further destablising neighbouring under-subscribed schools, who then have to pick up bulk of in year admissions. To call these under-subsribed schools selective or not inclusive is just wrong.

Woodfields is a warm, welcoming and friendly school where it’s cool to be clever. Our routines and support allow children to thrive within safe and clear boundaries. Staff have a high presence so that there is always someone to talk to. Our young people love it.
