An interesting viewpoint piece which we should all read, including non-surgeons. I personally don’t think others think we ponder stuff like this much. For us to consider this in the UK -> we would need to first embrace the concept that CT is needed to diagnose and guide.

This is a really interesting paper, especially around aptitude testing in selection to surgical training. It still amazes me that selection to core surgical training involves assessment of knowledge required to be a GP but not one assessment of basic manual dexterity….
Most surgeons agree technical performance should matter in certification—but fear bias, logistics, and subjectivity in high-stakes assessments. A national reckoning is coming.

A great session from my PhD supervisor Prof Costello who amongst many things taught me:.1. To be a successful clinician scientist requires true collaboration with scientists - no man is an island. 2. Promote everyone around you so you succeed as a team.3. Clinical PhDs work.
