it’s a 2 minute radio program, never repeated, broadcast 18 times a week. Bigger audience than Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon … combined. Millions listen, with no need for the information it gives. Just to listen. The BBC Shipping Forecast is 100 years old.

⚡️Cumulonimbus is nature’s skyscraper with attitude. Captured here from the A350 flight deck en route to Hong Kong, this Cb is putting on a light show worthy of a rock concert. Beautiful from a distance… but definitely not something you’d want to fly through. A Cumulonimbus

I love this idea - and the bit about several daily sales shows to me that if you put traditional media in front of people, and make it attractive and easy to buy, people will still go for it.
Fun fact! There is a Penguin book vending machine at Exeter St Davids station. Built 2023, it recalls a 1934 visit by a publisher (going home after an Agatha Christie meeting) who was inspired to set up @PenguinUKBooks right there. @GWRHelp staff tell me it sells several each day

From my office window, I’m often privileged to see nature at its most fierce and beautiful. This picture encapsulates so much. From Orion’s Belt to green hue of the lights near Beijing, with the wrath of Thor illuminating it all at the centre. No filter & a single shot. Proud of

Extremely rare - and the highest clouds (above 40 miles in the mesosphere) - were spotted in the UK last night. Noctilucent, also known as 'night-shining' clouds are only seen in the summer where the sun illuminates ice crystals in the cloud. Stunning... 😍

Also quite liked seeing an A350-1000 flying to the Blue Danube to be honest.

Well that's a first. A Dassault Falcon bizjet display with Unchained Melody as accompaniment. It actually worked.

It's 30 years today since the first ever @rafredarrows display in #Bolton at the local BAe factory gala (they were an 8 that day). I remember feeling a buzz seeing them fly just 2 miles from home! This shape, Apollo, is in their show exactly three decades later.

Today it's 25 years since the last Woodford Airshow. Highlight was the last display of the day, an Austrian J 35OE https://t.co/z3fBoy6Do4 This video is from the other side of the airfield away from the public, but it does show how rotten the weather was.

Me 30 years ago this summer standing heroically in a Tornado at @airtattoo Almost exactly three decades later, it’s been lovely to put together Airshows of the World 2025, out now. In glorious print to keep – interviews, insight, info and photos! https://t.co/S8SEy5X9CJ

Close-up, within the formation - a brilliant view of parts of the first half of the 2025 show, as seen from Red 4’s jet. 📸 AS1 Iwan Lewis #RedArrows #RAF #Teamwork #Avgeek #Greece

An email just now mentions a major airline has reached agreement with the UFO union. I didn't know aliens were unionised.

This sort of thing is why I'll always prefer to watch any Wallace & Gromit film before any noisy superhero stuff.
The "No Parkin" sign, on the Lancs- Yorkshire Border, was one of a million glorious gags in the new Wallace and Gromit film. @aardman

Always nice to include quirky little bits of info in my writing. Latest - name-checking Gianluigi Buffon (who I can faintly recall watching live on Channel 4's Serie A matches in the mid-90s) in a magazine about the Airbus A220.
