I'm a virologist that works on the cell biology aspect of viral infection. My group is based at the @IGCiencia in Portugal.
Portugal
Joined March 2020
On the 30th of September the @IGC closed down to give rise to GiMM, a new institute that merges the IGC with the @IMMolecular. The @IGC has always had a broad vision of science and has been extremely successful in its PhD programme. I hope this is valued in GIMM. Good luck!
Today, I reflect on the legacy of @IGCiencia over the last 60 years and what it has meant for research and the scientific community in Portugal and beyond. IGC was never just a place—it was a pioneering model. #IGCLegacyLivesOn 1/5

Getting into the wonderful world of flu. why? where do lab viruses come from? what are outstanding questions in the field? If interested, please read and comment. With @CVRHutchinson and @YamauchiLab.
🚨New preprint🚨 Are you working on #influenza for the first time? (Because... reasons?) Or supervising someone who does? With @mjamorim1 and @YamauchiLab we've preprinted a chapter covering common questions when getting to grips with flu: https://t.co/HKddlpDJkO

I am very proud of our work published in @PLOSBiology with @SilviaValeCosta as 1st author.
#Influenza virus infection triggers condensation of host recycling #endosomes next to the ER. @SilviaValeCosta @mjamorim1 &co show that this a regulated process involving ATG9A, which detaches recycling endosomes from #microtubules near the ER #PLOSBiology

Wonderful environment @IGCiencia on account of the @SymbNET Summer School!
During the Summer School, students took on the challenge of developing a group research project on #HostMicrobe Symbioses, fostering deep thinking of the questions and future directions in the field. Congratulations to ALL for their outstanding work and special 👏 to the winners!

lovely to welcome you at Católica Biomedical Research Centre
In September, I’ll be joining the Católica Biomedical Research Centre, in Oeiras (PT), to lead a lab focused on the interactions of parasites with the vasculature. I’m very excited and looking forward to forming a great team. https://t.co/TTFknOnXm2
