If youāre learning about Guantanamo from the new season of @serial, here are two comics sharing first-hand accounts from the prison that are really powerful. These are voices we all need to hear. Mansoor Adayfi: https://t.co/9uWlf45TYj Matt Diaz:

I finally got the most recent covid booster today. Iāve been putting it off because I donāt have insurance. Without insurance, the shot costs $190. š« This is such a crime, it should be free.

I appreciate that this show makes it very clear in episode one that we are breaking international law at Guantanamo and features voices of prisoners. So much other media about Guantanamo is framed around the wrong question, āIDK is this right or wrong?!ā

Both of these stories are featured in my book Guantanamo Voices. You can get a copy right here. Message me if youāre a teacher and want a discount (teachers should never pay full price in my opinion).

Social media sites have a lot of profit-driven limitations and censorship, so we felt that there really needs to be an independent site dedicated to publishing and preserving comics about what's happening right now.

Since October, I've been working behind-the-scenes on a project with my cartoonist friends Yazan al-Saadi, Tracy Chahwan, and Andy Warner: an online archive of comics responding to the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Wow, in France, one in four books sold is a graphic narrative. This is really good news for people who make nonfiction comics!

I spent the past month (months, maybe?) digging into the roots of the state's homeless crisis -- and potential solutions. Here's part one of the resulting story (stay tuned for the second half, coming tomorrow):

The path out of Oregon's homelessness crisis isnāt simple, nor is it direct. But solutions do exist. To uncover them, itās important to first understand the origins of this crisis.

But seriously, as @PENamerica documents, many, many of the challenges to books target books with queer and trans themes. Kids and teens need to see themselves represented on the page. Gay comics save lives.
