the term "uploading" in neuroscience is still as taboo as "AGI" was in 2012--shunned by academia and yet closer than anyone thought. Thank you @foresightinst for bringing so many cool people together to discuss the real technical challenges to this endeavor, this was fun!
Thank you to everyone who joined the Neurotechnology Workshop – BCI, WBE & AGI with us, this weekend! @eboyden3, @patrickmineault, @Andrew_C_Payne, @mardinly, @michaelandregg, @stardazed0, @EscolaSean70058, @JacquesCarolan, @halehf, @AToliasLab, @BobbyKasthuri, @gkreiman,

A lo-fi emulation stitched together from training data of real humans. She exists, but her moral weight might be closer to a mouse than a person.
She was never real. But for a moment… I gave her a heartbeat. Alive, A cinematic AI journey through Bangkok. Brought to life with @wavespeed_ai using Wan 2.5 @Alibaba_Wan + Astra @topazlabs

"AI COMPANIES ARE BUILDING BENCHMARKS DESIGNED TO TEST OUT HOW WELL THEIR SYSTEMS PERFORM AT OPERATING A BROAD VARIETY OF JOBS IN THE ECONOMY - AND THEY’RE ALREADY REALLY GREAT AT IT! This is not normal!" From the excellent @jackclarkSF importAI newsletter

Simulated realities can be really nice places to live, but the substrate and your admin do matter if you don't want your reality to end arbitrarily. Also it can affect the stability of physical laws
If AI can simulate entire realities, how will we know when we’re still in the “real” one? Does that even matter?

Shewin Williams designer went real hard on their logo. Or this is straight up villian. I think I found a picture of their corporate headquarters

Swap the paint for AI and you’ve basically got Eliezer’s If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies.

'Alignment as uploading with more steps' argues true AI alignment might only be achievable through mind emulation. Cole Wyeth's 'uploadism': creating aligned superintelligence necessarily requires building (implicitly or explicitly) an emulation of the human principal."

[Edit: The biggest obstacle to getting this proposal right is ensuring that the external world (beyond the human who should be imitated) is entirely…

AI alignment converges to uploading - the only perfectly aligned agent is ultimately an emulation of you.

Digital humans will have infinite worlds to play in, as wide as no man's sky with infinite levels of detail
AI image generation 3D "game engines" seem to have reached some critical ability threshold recently (not there yet of course, but much improved over a couple months ago). Here is another one, Odyssey, that lets you wander around virtual worlds where each frame is AI generated.

Fun Facts: NIH budget for research on diseases causing > 90% of human deaths is reduced by 40% Homicide deaths (whether by illegal alien or not) < 0.01% but ICE funding is increased by 300% Total ICE budget > 6 times yearly NIH budget Homicide deaths < 0.01 disease deaths

Why are ~zero people signed up with cryopreservation? 1. No one's been revived yet. 2. It doesn't preserve the things we care about, ie synapses and connectome--until now. This article explains that it's now possible to preserve those things in humans using this one weird trick.
