Last Friday a reporter from @Channel4News interviewed @beatrixscudeler about her awful experience of giving birth at the JR hospital in Oxford. It was a hard subject to talk about but I am so proud of her for doing it. See below to watch the report ⬇️

Thank you to @CapelLofft for giving us the idea to visit it and to @beatrixscudeler for having the sense to realise that it was close enough for us to visit during our holiday.

Rather pleased with what I was able to find at @BookcaseCrlisle which must be one of the best second-hand bookshops I’ve ever visited. And trust me, I’ve been to many.

‘I truly once thought that good history will live outside the academy if you just open it up to social media without any peer review or gatekeeping. I was wrong.’.Great stuff from @MrMaitra. Tl;dr - Stop watching YouTube and listening to podcasts. Read a bloody book!.

My absolute favourite purchase in the 2nd hand section of @blackwelloxford was a Daily Missal and Liturgical Manual (J. Dukes SJ, ed.) from 1954, with the unreformed Holy Week rites, and leathers covers with a zip. Inscription that said ‘To Bobby, from Nora.’ . For just £8!!!.

I cannot stand seeing this in bookshops. Awful.
@mehmet_y_c Now there is a bookcase filled with volumes of blank note paper inside the bindings of old books.

I’m most nostalgic for the second-hand section on the top floor of Blackwells in Oxford, which disappeared during the pandemic. I found absolute treasures there at very low prices. All gone.
