My @spectator debut is out now, in which I discuss birth trauma and maternity care on the NHS. It's probably the hardest thing I've had to write to date, but I'm so glad I did.

'My commonplace book is a healthy mix of St. John Henry Newman and Michael Scott'. Entirely agree with @tsh except for me it's probably a mix of Dorothy Sayers and Leslie Knope 🤣

Let's be clear: no parent can ever entirely shield their child from pain. Selling people the dream that they can do so - even shaming parents who don't fall for it, as Orchid does - is repugnant.

What if your baby never walks? What if they are never able to live independently?. What if you could have stopped it….but chose not to?. That’s the question @OrchidInc’s embryo screening forces. You optimize everything… career, diet, skincare… but you’re going to chance it on

Films set in Oxford are often full of stereotypes and clichés. My Oxford Year is no exception. Read my (much more light-hearted than my usual writing!) review for @TheCriticMag here 👇🏼.

What's the point of getting a literature degree if you can't criticize bad storytelling? Today for @TheCriticMag, I review the new Netflix film My Oxford Year, arguing that its obsession with clichés is a symptom of the microtrendification of fiction.

Baked enough cheesecakes for a formal dinner for 20 people the other day. A nice distraction from my usual job of ranting about how horribke everything is in the world. Seriously considering catering as a side hustle.

This week, @PublicDiscourse is publishing an article series on advice to people in their early twenties. I kicked off the series yesterday with an essay on career and vocation. Today, the series continues with a reflection on friendship.

This week in @PublicDiscourse, I share the career advice I wish I'd been given in my early twenties. Vocations should inform our career choices, not the other way around. Read it below 👇🏼.

Like A. G. Sertillanges' "stream narrowly hemmed in by its banks," the professional whose aspirations are limited and constrained by the obligations of her vocation is more fulfilled than the one who's unencumbered. @beatrixscudeler shares countercultural career advice for Gen Z:.
