@SebastienBubeck @sama Terence Tao using AI to push forward math research feels like a historic moment. When one of the greatest living mathematicians collaborates with AI for counterexamples & heuristics, it’s a sign we’re entering a new era of human + machine discovery. 🚀

In sf, it’s important to have “tech friends” and “normal friends” Tech friends: - understand why you’re here - will inspire you to work harder Normal friends: - remind you the rest of the world doesn’t give a shit about any of the above - love a beer

Success of every groundbreaking project usually relies on one or two critical people driving it forward. It is hard for large companies to innovate because they prefer to rely on processes instead of people

I think congrats again to OpenAI for cooking with GPT-5 Pro. This is the third time I've struggled on something complex/gnarly for an hour on and off with CC, then 5 Pro goes off for 10 minutes and comes back with code that works out of the box. I had CC read the 5 Pro version

at least I can now tweet about how hot and brilliant she is without getting into hr trouble or sounding like a corporate shill because even @TIME agrees and she’s in the same category as the Pope!
today feels surreal. on the same day i was included in the time100 ai list, we shared internally that i’m transitioning from leading model behavior to begin something new at openai. building the team, discipline, and craft of model behavior over the past couple of years has been

Medicine and public health have added three decades to the human lifespan. Vaccination alone produced 40% of the reduction in child deaths. And now a disturbed and unqualified man driven by crackpot theories is destroying the foundations of this work, including CDC.
RFK JR: I’m looking at kids as I walk through the airports today...and I see these kids that are just overburdened with mitochondrial challenges, inflammation—you can tell from their faces, movements, and lack of social connection

Saddling the youth with extreme debt as the price of participation in the modern economy was probably a quite terrible collective decision. Crushing debt has profound psychological consequences and also political consequences.

when you get access to gpt-5, try a message like "use beatbot to make a sick beat to celebrate gpt-5". it's a nice preview of what we think this will be like as AI starts to generate its own UX and interfaces get more dynamic. it's cool that you can interact with the

this is such an important point! it still matters to see researchers and leadership who care about doing the right thing, but we need systems in place so that safety doesn't depend only on that.
You should not have to trust whether an AI CEO "cares about safety" any more than you should have to trust an airline CEO in order to get on a plane. We need systemic solutions: clear standards, strong incentives to follow them, and solid evidence they're being followed.

My fear is that ordinary Americans are not experiencing the firing of an experienced, non-partisan, leader of a statistical agency as the major earthquake for the United States that it is.

Something I didn't believe when I was younger but I definitely believe today: The only reliable source of good ideas is trying to build stuff, often terrible stuff, until you stumble upon a good idea. Build, pivot, build, rework, build, abandon it, build, have that ah ha moment

I blog and give talks to help build people's intuition for diffusion models. YouTubers like @3blue1brown and @welchlabs have been a huge inspiration: their ability to make complex ideas in maths and physics approachable is unmatched. Really great to see them tackle this topic!
New video on the details of diffusion models: https://t.co/rRjJehNuF3 Produced by @welchlabs, this is the first in a small series of 3b1b this summer. I enjoyed providing editorial feedback throughout the last several months, and couldn't be happier with the result.

we have been thinking recently about the need for something like "AI privilege"; this really accelerates the need to have the conversation. imo talking to an AI should be like talking to a lawyer or a doctor. i hope society will figure this out soon.

Not sure why the gutting of American science funding isn’t a bigger story. No one voted for it, it reduces American innovation and economic competitiveness in the near-term and long-term, and it isn’t even being done efficiently, if that were in fact the goal.
