Labour’s housing investment and reforms aren’t getting the attention they deserve but that doesn’t mean it’s any less important. Huge progress being made by @mtpennycook.

So many of us have been campaigning for years and years for government to properly get behind social housing again. Credit where credit is due, it is great to see it happening.
Boosting the supply of social rented homes has always been a priority for @AngelaRayner and me. We are today announcing that 60% of our 10-year £39 billion Social and Affordable Homes Programme will be for Social Rent.

Many of those stranded travelled for essential, compassionate reasons: to care for loved ones or attend funerals. Now, they are stuck in an increasingly dangerous situation with flights vanishing...

Private water companies have been failing for years while paying out massive bonuses. We’ve campaigned for action so I’m buzzing that @SteveReedMP emailed our supporters directly to share that he’s banned 6 firms from paying out these bonuses. This is change we can get behind.

@Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl The focus groups chime with the results of an opinion poll of the constituency, also carried out this week. Sky News have a write up here:

@Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl The govt is struggling to get recognition for progress. The minimum wage rise was hugely popular, while people talked about improvements NHS, with several participants saying they could now get a GP appointment more easily - but these experiences are not top of mind for voters.

@Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl Voters are not unrealistic. “I wonder what people expected after 15 years of the Tories bringing the country to its knees” was one comment. But even voters sticking with Labour aren't happy about the government's first year in office.

@Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl The removal of winter fuel allowance for all but the poorest pensioners, along with cuts to disability benefits, was referenced by participant after participant as a source of their disillusionment and concerns over government priorities. Here's what one disaffected Labour said.

@Moreincommon_ @LukeTryl The cost of living dominated the groups. When asked about the change they wanted to see in the coming years, the focus was on having a bit more money and fixing the NHS. In this part of the discussion, immigration wasn’t raised. Here's what one first-time Reform voter said:

The three focus groups were run by @Moreincommon_. The groups included different types of voters to get a good range of people. @LukeTryl has a great thread on the details and what we heard here:
⚡️🧵On Friday we ran focus groups for @38degrees @mcgregormt & @UCLPolicyLab in Runcorn with those who voted Reform, Labour, Green or hadn't voted a day earlier to find out why. These are the 1st groups I can remember where just the participants could have changed the result.

We worked with @Moreincommon_ on focus groups in Runcorn on Friday. In contrast to widely held assumptions, the cost of living was raised more than immigration. Read more about what the groups tell us in @shippersunbound’s Sunday Times column here:

New @JLPartnersPolls poll of people who voted yesterday has cost of living as voters’ top concern (59%), almost double that of immigration (32%). NHS second biggest factor (42%). My piece for @LabourList on people not feeling the change they were promised.
