We were delighted to be able to contribute with a small calculation for how heterogeneously ribosomes walk. Thanks @MarvinTanenbaum @_SoraY and Max Madern!

Great paper on imaging individual as well as multiple ribosomes and on how ribosomes translate efficiently!

Our paper on Stopless-ORF Circular RNAs (socRNAs) is now out in Cell. By high-res tracking and comparing translation by either single or multiple ribosomes, we find that ribosomes cooperate to overcome pausing to ensure fast and efficient translation https://t.co/Oyw32LlbxM

Impressive work on ribosomes from the Tanenbaum lab, showing also that ribosomes move at different speeds. Also pointer to Marvin's second post: Great PD @_SoraY is on the jobmarket this year!

Two new lab papers: In the first paper we develop Stopless-ORF circRNAs (socRNAs), a technique to measure translation by individual ribosomes with incredible precision. Amazing work jointly led by @MadernMax and @_SoraY. https://t.co/KMjsM0QRGw

Hes genes are dynamically expressed in many tissues. But how do dynamics differ between tissues and are they always oscillatory? We have addressed this question in the context of the developing embryo, where somites and neural tube form side-by-side. https://t.co/sj3gPFB9Ph

This works because the mutual information can be expressed analytically in terms of two parameters only: the mutual information between signal and the variable of relevance, and a scaling parameter.

This tradeoff means that the optimal curves on the information plane collapse for different signals (if signals and sensors can be described by conditional Gaussian probability distributions).

Happy to share our new paper in PRX Life! We apply the information bottleneck to molecular sensing problems; for signals in early fly development, and Gaussian signals generally, we identify a universal tradeoff between obtaining crucial information and measuring noisily.

Cells decipher chemical inputs to decide their fate, yet these "measurements" can be imprecise. This PRX Life study looked at how this affects cell information retrieval and what it means for gap genes in fruit fly embryos. 🧬🔬 https://t.co/lbtALlS9gX

I have an opening for a Theoretical Biophysics PhD position :) The position has a focus on understanding virus gene regulation and packaging, w/ experimental collaborations. But it's a theoretical position and so there is flexibility.
