I'm told by a Home Office source that civil servants got no parting message from Priti Patel, not even a brief thanks for their work. Apparently this is v unusual for a parting home sec. Quite telling of Patel's relationship with and treatment of her staff while she was in office.

A story of Home Office incompetence:. On Wednesday I spoke to a Somali-Dutch man, Hussen Mohamed, 27, who's lived in UK since age 10. He applied for EU settlement in Nov 2019 but is yet to receive a decision. Each time he'd call to ask he was told there's a backlog, keep waiting.

Patel/the HO keep claiming Rwanda has already resettled 127,000 refugees as proof that it has the means/capacity to take in thousands of UK asylum seekers. In fact 90% of the refugees in Rwanda live in camps and are depending on humanitarian assistance. Not really 'resettled'.
