Leeds is probably the most unlucky city in Western Europe 🎭 European City of Culture funding? Sorry we're leaving the EU. 🚄HS2? Sorry we spent too much in the chilterns. 🛫New Airport terminal? Sorry that's not climate friendly, but London Airport expansions are fine. (1/X)

Rare you get so close to an explicit "electrifying railways [in the Midlands and North of England] isn't affordable because we've got to invest in and around London" line. But there it is.

Congratulations to all those involved in the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. Today's opening is testament to the strength and dedication of Rob, his friends, family, and wider community. His legacy will continue to inspire, support, and provide comfort to people for years to come.
'Hopefully it's the first of many' On #BBCBreakfast the family of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow cut the ribbon at the state-of-the-art centre in Leeds - the first purpose-built facility dedicated entirely to MND care, research, education and holistic support - and was funded

In 2026, I’m going to do something many will see as crazy… I’m going from 12h+ of screen time per day down to 0. For an entire year. And? I’ll be sharing periodic neuroimaging, 100+ monthly blood markers (@superpower), continuous sleep data, video updates, and more. All

the internet used to be an escape from reality. now, reality is an escape from the internet. there are 2 ways to make tons of money right now: build niche tools that fuel the scroll or build things that stop it.

To be fair, after seeing pictures of @thomasforth poverty garden over the years, with his need to hang sheets out to dry and his inability to drive a 4x4 Range Rover to the office, maybe it is right after all.

I cannot believe we design policy around the IMD when these are the indicators for living environment. It basically scores isolated suburban estates really well, and penalises any form of dense living in urban design which we all know has positive externalities when done well.

AH OK, I see now. On Google street view, I explored an LS0A in Middlesborough which is better than 92% of other LSOAs in England. This makes total sense. Is the ONS totally broken or am I missing something here?

Something feels very broken on the the ONS's new Indices of Multiple Deprivation (2025) Living Environment score. Roundhay has lots of high quality homes with gardens and one of Europes largest parks, and is on the border of the green belt but is worse than 77% of other places?

It is definitely like this now - no denying summer is over. The artist of this painted it just before The Tree was felled.

England is the single best country to walk in. Hands down. Because after ten miles of this, you can end in pub, have a proper ale while you warm up, go get high street Indian for a proper meal, then get up, have a proper breakfast, and do it all again, but with very different

It's worth remembering that administrative statistics are usually very confusing for city size. Done objectively – people within commuting distance of the centre – Leeds is a much larger city than Marseille. 2.7 million people within 30km versus 1.6 million.
What’s the difference between the Leeds metro and the Marseille metro? The Marseille metro exists. Leeds is the largest city in Europe without a metro. UK towns lag Germany & France, holding back growth. In a new report with @labourtogether, we set out a plan to change this 🧵
