Residential fires are extremely upsetting & my thoughts are with those who have lost their lives, their loved ones and the injured at such a difficult time.
đ¨HONGKONG đđ°: Hong Kongâs deadliest fire in 17 years has killed at least 36 people, including a firefighter, with 279 others reported missing after a massive blaze swept through multiple high-rise apartment buildings in Tai Po on Wednesday night. #china #fire #HongKong

This manifesto for a post-growth, de-commodified housing strategy is close to what we have been proposing. A very good (long) read

It terrifies me that councils act to house homeless people when @Kwajotweneboa tweets What happens when he's not there? I see similar cases all the time. When I call the press office, insisting on answers, things change. But that's now how a functional housing system works.
UPDATE: We spoke to the resident and @Kwajotweneboa at the end of last week regarding this case. We have moved the resident into temporary accommodation until the end of this week, and they have also accepted an offer of private-rented accommodation after this point. 1/3

Buzzed: Lambeth to flog five more empty council homes â too pricey to fix for local families, but apparently fine to sell to private investors https://t.co/QLRmCOhRUA

My government is delivering the biggest boost to social housing in a generation. Weâre backing the mayors and councils who know their communities best, to build homes for families who need them the most.

With ÂŁ2.8bn spent annually on temporary housing and ÂŁ30bn+ each year on housing benefit it'd make sense for public money to buy them at discounted rate. But this govt is completely in hock to volume developers, so won't do it.
New & exclusive đĄ Labourâs latest urgent housing market fix Govt looking at national plan to help developers sell off new unoccupied affordable housing. Comes just after âemergencyâ tax breaks for developers in London Read all about it @theipaper

This will not go away @SteveReedMP - and we will remember the failure to act on an industrial scale overcharging that landlords are getting away with. We're happy to talk solutions like this: https://t.co/whGIwX2jF6 If you support action on this abuse - please sign!

SHAC and Members in the Press Thx @BenedictJSmith & @TheTelegraph__ for covering the insane & unregulated world of service charges. This will continue @SteveReedMP until govt gets a grip on this - and equalises rights for all. #EndServiceChargeAbuse

Cowboy developer cut off and blocked several of the boiler flues of the building I live in. Also built over our boundary and refused to do party wall. Local council wontât enforce. Building control is private company who keep referring us to the council. System is such a mess.

FT: confusing housing need with demand leads to massive policy failure. A huge number of people need a home: far fewer can actually afford to buy one. We need a wholesale change in how we commission, fund and build new homes. SOCIAL HOUSEBUILDING NOW!

Weâre often told housing demand exceeds supply â so why are new homes struggling to be built and bought?

An Observation on Angela Rayner and the Labour Government: One cannot help but feel a measure of sympathy for Angela Rayner. I know her well enough to say that she came into politics for the best of reasons: a desire to serve, a determination to improve the lives of people whose

Nobody should have to pay for housing that makes them sick! Our members have been forced to endure hazardous conditions for too long. On the day that Awaab's Law comes into force, it's time for @hackneycouncil to finally rehouse our members in safe homes now!

If youâre a private landlord who thinks itâs acceptable to rent out slum housing that puts your tenantsâ health and safety at risk, you shouldnât just lose the right to be a landlord - thereâs a strong case that you should be behind bars. The renters rights bill is rebalancing
âIf landlords wonât live in the conditions of the homes they rent out, then no one should.â @Kwajotweneboa dismisses concerns that the Rentersâ Rights Bill piles too much pressure on landlords.
