This manifesto for a post-growth, de-commodified housing strategy is close to what we have been proposing. A very good (long) read

It terrifies me that councils act to house homeless people when @Kwajotweneboa tweets What happens when he's not there? I see similar cases all the time. When I call the press office, insisting on answers, things change. But that's now how a functional housing system works.

UPDATE: We spoke to the resident and @Kwajotweneboa at the end of last week regarding this case. We have moved the resident into temporary accommodation until the end of this week, and they have also accepted an offer of private-rented accommodation after this point. 1/3

My government is delivering the biggest boost to social housing in a generation. We’re backing the mayors and councils who know their communities best, to build homes for families who need them the most.

With ÂŁ2.8bn spent annually on temporary housing and ÂŁ30bn+ each year on housing benefit it'd make sense for public money to buy them at discounted rate. But this govt is completely in hock to volume developers, so won't do it.

Cowboy developer cut off and blocked several of the boiler flues of the building I live in. Also built over our boundary and refused to do party wall. Local council wont’t enforce. Building control is private company who keep referring us to the council. System is such a mess.

FT: confusing housing need with demand leads to massive policy failure. A huge number of people need a home: far fewer can actually afford to buy one. We need a wholesale change in how we commission, fund and build new homes. SOCIAL HOUSEBUILDING NOW!

We’re often told housing demand exceeds supply — so why are new homes struggling to be built and bought?

Nobody should have to pay for housing that makes them sick! Our members have been forced to endure hazardous conditions for too long. On the day that Awaab's Law comes into force, it's time for @hackneycouncil to finally rehouse our members in safe homes now!

If you’re a private landlord who thinks it’s acceptable to rent out slum housing that puts your tenants’ health and safety at risk, you shouldn’t just lose the right to be a landlord - there’s a strong case that you should be behind bars. The renters rights bill is rebalancing

No more tax money for house builders!!! They make millions in profits a year. Our tax money should go to local authorities to build council housing instead. We shouldn’t be subsidising developers shareholders
