That’s not to say using the review was was inherently bad journalism (I think we can only know that for sure if we hear the follow up questions) but the framing did not give that they were fishing for the answer that was given IJS.

I too am a letterboxd jester and most times my silly off the cuff one liners are steeped in more substantial thoughts about the films i watch but if someone presented my “polyamory for dummy’s” review of Challengers as if it was nuanced film criticism, I’d laugh.

That letterboxd review was a joke that might also parallel some legitimate thoughts on the film but acting like it was definitively serious and that the interviewers presentation of it was a genuine attempt at raising a criticism of the film is……. interesting.
asking a director about a popular reaction to their film isn’t a “glib attempt at viral bullshit” and likening this question (to which she thanked the journalist for and proceeded to give a great answer) to “being shown Labubus” is ridiculous.
