Big exhale. 16 days into our hospital stay, I’m happy to report Shabral’s surgeon just called to say her second surgery was a success and, by Day 17/18, we are likely headed home where the next phase of the cancer fighting journey begins. Thank you for all your prayers and care.
14 years ago, I married the love of my life. In that time, she's shown me care, passion, concern, and unyielding support. For the last year, she's had to learn how to be cared for, which takes a toll on one's pride, erodes confidence. Still, she fights for her, and us. My queen.
Was awoken just after 4 a.m. PT this morning, and didn't know why. I'd started working on a memorial piece yesterday, had to tap out last night, and felt the need to keep writing in the darkness. Turns out that was right when Robin passed. Heartbroken.
As crushing a loss as I can recall. Spent the last three hours on the phone with Gil's friends and rivals and teammates and team owners and it's either stunned silence or uncontrollable tears.
If you knew him, you were fortunate. One of my favorite human beings. This day makes

I watched on Saturday as one slightly popular driver was being called by fans to come over and sign, but chose to ignore them and walk away. He got booed.
And then I watched the series’ most popular driver stop and give freely of his time and energy to the same fans.
Fortunate to have covered the 100 anniversary of and the 100th running of the Indy 500, and the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For a lifelong racer, such things have meaning.
Alright, France. I’m out.
Based on what I'm seeing on social media, the world's first street race is about to take place, in Chicago of all places.
If it goes well, I do wonder if F1, IMSA, IndyCar, Formula E, and other series might give it a try.
🤦🤦🤦
With no disrespect to the fine people born on August 24, I hate this day. I learned to hate it four years ago. My hatred for it has not diminished; if anything, it’s increased. The hatred will fade in time, and I welcome that stage. Our hearts belong to the Wilson family today.
Having worked for a lot of small teams, one of the things I once loved about F1 was the ability for the Colonis and Minardis and Larrousses and the Tolemans and an AGS or a RIAL to rock up and try to fight with the McLarens and Ferraris, even though they never stood a chance.
Team Chevy, you kicked ass. Team Penske, you kicked ass. Josef Newgarden, you’ve always been an ass kicker. Congratulations on an amazing effort. And good night from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Back tomorrow, then, home for 2 days, then off to the world’s other biggest race.

My queen and I thank you for all of the incredibly kind gestures with notes and texts and calls. She’ll be in the ER hospital a few more days, but it’s only a mile from home and the staff is the nicest I’ve met.

My Lord. This was the emotional release we've needed for more than a year. A Penske-perfect day at the

Again: This is why we love racing
One of the unexpected gifts last weekend in Barber was seeing my dear friend and former SPEED colleague Bob Varsha for the first time in person in many years. Looking great after kicking cancer’s behind.
That left hand was obscured by his helmet so I can’t 100% confirm or deny but I think we might have just seen the long awaited return of the “Will Power Double Bird”
Met her 18 years ago on April 28, 2002. Married her 15 years ago on November 19, 2005.
I am nourished by her love and humor and indomitable spirit. She is the best part of my life.
Shabral is in her new room recovering from surgery. Our neurosurgeon said everything went well. We wake up tomorrow with yet another new fight to wage in addition to the others we’ve faced since September. Thank you for all of the kindness; it has been received.
The race was not red flagged. With a driver laying on the front straight being attended to by safety workers. Wish I understood why. Sato was going to win either way.
She's the best part of my life. Everything I'd hoped for and so much more that I didn't know I needed. It's been an amazing 17 years and many more anniversaries are on the way.
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to fire 2020. It was explained to 2020 the firing was based on grand theft of life and joy, plus gross incompetence in every imaginable area.

We didn't know it at the time, but my wife's release from the cancer ward would be incredibly brief. Nonetheless, June 7, 2019, was the end of an 18-day stint that turned our lives upside down, so it felt like a victory and brings back happy memories today.
