14 first half points for Virginia.
14!!!!!
You know who would have scored 14 points by himself?
"Cream Abdul-Jabbar"
"Larry Nerd"
"Steph Blurry"
I hope Robbie Avila and all of Terre Haute Indiana didn't watch that first half in Dayton.
Ah yes…because nobody values competition quite like the sport where one driver won 19 of 22 races last year.
Uh…9 of your 10 teams aren’t competitive participants
@F1
.
.
@F1
: "The most significant way in which a new entrant would bring value is by being competitive. We do not believe that the Applicant, [Andretti Formula Racing, LLC], would be a competitive participant."
F1 TV viewership in the US is down
Netflix numbers dipped significantly
So if you're a new F1 fan who got DTS/COVID hooked & realized motorsports are cool but are now bored with F1...
Check out Indycar/NASCAR/IMSA or a local short track. You'll find them ALL more entertaining
This kid is a wheelman and deserving of all the incredible fan support he’s built up. Easily the sport’s most popular driver and if he ever has his day his legion of fans are going to tear the IMS fences down celebrating.
@PatricioOWard
That left hand was obscured by his helmet so I can’t 100% confirm or deny but I think we might have just seen the long awaited return of the “Will Power Double Bird”
Winners of the last 5 Indycar races on ovals:
2023 Indy 500:

2023 Texas:
Josef Newgarden
2022: WWT Raceway:
Josef Newgarden
2022: Iowa 2:

(Newgarden led 148 laps and was dominating before he broke and crashed)
2022: Iowa 1:
Josef Newgarden
Zach Edey got 57 votes for AP player of the year. Dalton Knecht finished 2nd with 3. It wasn’t even close. So chalk up another Tennessee loss to Purdue.
I don’t know what kind of sports video/production awards are out there but this on board shot deserves to win (BSI) Broadcasting Sports International all sorts of awards. Dramatic video you simply aren’t going to get in other sports.
Matt Painter: Big Ten Coach of the Year
Brandon Brantley: Big Ten Assistant Coach of the Year
Zach Edey: Big Ten Player of the Year
Edey and Braden Smith: First Team All Big Ten
Mason Gillis: Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year.
@BoilerBall
just devoured the conference awards.
I’ve been saying this for a few years. You could take the
@GlobalMX5Cup
to Martinsville, Monaco, Eldora, the Nurburgring or Talladega and I guarantee they’ll put on one of the best races you’ve ever seen.
“I got to race with Jonathan Davenport and Helio Castroneves in the same night. They don’t talk nothing alike.”
😂😂😂 God bless Schrader!
Blairsville Georgia is just around the corner from São Paulo Brazil.
Last year the
@Panthers
got their Earl Thomas (Jeremy Chinn) and this year they went and got their Richard Sherman (Jaycee Horn)
Toss in Donte Jackson and AJ Bouye and I think I see the vision former Seahawks exec Scott Fitterer has and I like it.
I didn’t think “One Shining Moment” had enough
@BoilerBall
in it last night...so I spent a few minutes editing on my phone today and just went ahead and fixed it.
You can call this the
@Cboogie_3
@Ryan_Cline13
edition.

🚂🏀
I hope NASCAR fans can find a way to give Ty Gibbs a 2nd chance and put their arms around him after having any joy of winning a championship completely erased by tragedy. He’s 20 yrs old and he’s made mistakes but the last thing he’s going to need moving forward is to be vilified
I love that they did this while Gene Keady is still with us.
I love that they did this with
@RobbieHummel
courtside doing the national radio broadcast.
I love that they did this with guys like
@pj_thompson11
and
@stefanovicsasha
on the staff.
This thing is a family.
#BoilerUp
Here’s Roger Penske teasing us ooooorrrr perhaps dropping a hint that he knows exactly who we all really want to see in an Indy 500 in the near future.
Video:
@FloRacing
In a perfect world Tony Stewart (who is about to come into a large sum of money selling off his charters) would partner with his hero AJ Foyt to run an Indycar team and chase that 500 win that deep down I bet he still wants.
I bet Tony would absolutely love Santino Ferrucci btw
Purdue beats IU
IU fans point to banners & deem that Purdue will always be lil brother
Purdue fans point out recent dominance & just how dusty those banner are
IU fans talk up the future citing incoming 5 star recruits/new coach...
Purdue beats IU again
It’s a vicious cycle
Purdue has now...(Bob Knight’s back!)
Won 6 straight...(Look it’s Isaiah!)
Over Indiana...(Vitale’s All IU team!)
And 9 of...(Woodson and Wittman!)
The last 10 meetings...(Banners!!!)
Pretty embarrassing job by ESPN on that game broadcast.
Now listen…
I’m not a conspiracy guy.
In fact I hate conspiracy guys.
But if you were say a “The NBA absolutely wants a Boston/New York Eastern Conference Finals” conspiracy guy…
…eh, I’d say tonight you have plenty of material to work with.
Just hope the folks at
@LillyDiabetes
understand that the blowback they received today wasn’t just from a bunch of racefans protective of one of their own
@ConorDaly22
, but that they really did punish a kid for something that happened before he was even born and to me that’s sad.
Until this evening the saddest part of this photo was the fact that California Speedway is currently in the process of being torn down.
We’ve lost the track and now the fastest man to ever drive on it.
Well wishes to the family and friends of 2003 Indianapolis 500 champion Gil de Ferran who passed away far too young today at the age of 56.
Just incredibly sad.
Jeremy Clements was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for using that word in a non broadcasted conversation to a reporter
Hell, Conor Daly lost sponsorship (which was BS by the way) when a second hand story came out about his dad using the word
My point: Kyle Larson is screwed.
Jeff Gordon: “Kyle, we’ve only got like 15 minutes to spare to get on the ground in Concord and get you in your car for the Coca Cola 600.”
Larson: “Aw but look at that quaint little 5th mile dirt track in eastern Tennessee that’s running a $25 to win street stock feature!”
I realize this is low hanging fruit, but Fox calling tomorrow “The Greatest Day in all of Racing” really is silly
Daytona 500 is awesome. My whole Sunday is planned around it, but we’re just going to pretend the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend doesn’t exist? Monaco/Indy/Charlotte
Just watched the last half hour of the 2015 Indy 500. I don’t think we talk enough about Juan Montoya nearly crashing on lap 196 and the adrenaline flowing GOD lap he threw down on 197.
So if we would have red flagged the race for 60-90 min to fix the pit wall, gone over the TV window pushing it to CNBC, had the leaders run out of fuel because they’d need 4-5 laps to get heat in the engines and then had a big Ryan Newman Daytona 500 GWC crash you’d all be happy?
Photo from the Wooden Award ceremony last night.
I don’t know exactly how the transfer portal works but Matt Painter badly needed someone who could consistently hit open shots when teams doubled/tripled Zach Edey.
I have an idea…
Matt Painter doesn’t react if his team execute a spectacular alley-oop or hit a fall away three pointer blind folded off of one foot.
But you force defensive 5 second call and he becomes Jim Valvano. 😂😂
He’s just the best
This is why I love the diehard Indy 500 fans who come for qualifying. I don’t think that crowd is rooting for Jack Harvey or against Graham Rahal. It’s all about rallying behind and respecting a racecar driver willing to lay it on the line during a last second desperation run.
20-1
Purdue basketball is 20-1
I know all that matters to some is that one game in March that 67 of 68 teams lose and another 290 schools don’t even play in, but maaaaan if you aren’t enjoying the journey along the way college basketball just isn’t for you.
Records are obviously made to be broken but spare a moment for the friends and family of the late great Scott Brayton who had the Indy 500 pole record for 26 years until today.
The traffic situation leaving
@IMS
is currently…how do I say this…a mess.
Never seen it like this before. Anyone got one of those left over giant turkey legs. I think I might be spending the night here. Hahahaha
First night back in a late model, has never been to the track in Brunswick GA, and didn’t practice there last night with the rest of the
@LucasDirt
field.
But guess who still took quick time…
@KyleLarsonRacin
This is probably always going to be a weird anniversary for everyone but Takuma Sato and his RLL team, but three years ago today Taku became a two time Indy 500 winner.
Finally signed up for HBO Max. I’ve been binge watching Hard Knocks all day. Impossible not to like some of these guys on the Colts like Jonathan Taylor, DeForest Buckner and Kenny Moore. They might be one of the teams I gravitate to in the playoffs since my team sucks.
I’d LOVE to know what the guy driving the grey SUV was thinking casually pulling out of the infield on the last lap of the 500
“Eh, saw
@JosefNewgarden
pull off a badass last lap pass to win last year, he’ll probably just do it again. C’mon kids get in the car, we’re going home”
The last time Purdue and Indiana were both ranked in the top 10?
The third week of December in 1998.
Shoutout to Brian Cardinal, Jaraan Cornell, Luke Recker AJ Guyton and current Ball State coach Michael Lewis!
First Memorial Day weekend in 75 years without the Indianapolis 500.
Before today only a World War prevented the Greatest Spectacle in Racing from being held.
Nothing about today feels right.
Let’s agree to never do this ever again.
For those keeping track at home that’s now a two time Formula 1 World champion, a seven time NASCAR champion and a two time V8 Supercars champion who have all caught the
@Indycar
bug. 🏁👍🏻
Lots of whining about no Indycar or NASCAR race the next couple weeks due to NBC’s commitment to the Olympics. Here’s an idea folks…
GO CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL SHORT TRACK AND SUPPORT GRASS ROOTS RACING!
Indiana Sprint Week starts Friday, btw. 😉
Let’s flesh this “it sets a bad precedent” thing out a bit
What other major race is a NASCAR driver going to want to participate in that they’ll also have the blessing of their Cup car owner to compete in?
It’s the Indy 500
That’s it
What a weird hot take
Grant Kyle a waiver
First game back with thousands inside Madison Square Garden and Trae Young went and made himself public enemy number one Reggie Miller style. This Hawks/Knicks series is going to be a lot of fun.
NOBODY in the history of sports finds a way to lose in more heartbreakingly bizarre and stupid ways than the Purdue Boilermakers.
It’s almost impressive...almost.
Just heard
@JosefNewgarden
tell
@KevinandQuery
on
@1075thefan
that his celebration was absolutely planned and he scouted out that hole in the fence and told himself when he was a rookie if he ever won he’d go celebrate with the fans in the grandstands. That is awesome.
Between finally getting a new a 4-time Indy 500 winner in Helio Castroneves, Kyle Larson turning into a NASCAR/Dirt Track messiah and an absolutely bonkers F1 season from start to finish, 2021 was pretty damn good to motorsports.
You have no clue how happy I am that this photo now exists. Make this the cover of the
@Indycar
media guide next year. Hang banners at
@IMS
.
Shoot…sorry
@JosefNewgarden
, let’s make this the damn Indy 500 ticket next year.
@Team_Penske
How special that this weekend both
@NASCAR
and
@INDYCAR
will get the chance to pay respects and honor a legendary voice who contributed to the immense success and growth of both sports.
And for it to be at
@IMS
, a place that wrapped its arms around Bob?
Incredibly fitting 😢
Last night right before the opening of tip of the Purdue/Nebraska game they put
@Zach_Edey
’s mom
@EdeyJulia
on the big screen and the arena went crazy. I’m pretty sure she could run for mayor of West Lafayette right now and win.
