This @Nature study led @CoveringClimate and our partners @guardian @AFP and other newsrooms to launch the#89Percent Project, highlighting that 8 out of 10 people globally want governments to take stronger climate action. Are leaders at UN climate talks in Brazil listening?
"Our findings reveal widespread support for climate action. Notably, 69% of the global population expresses a willingness to contribute 1% of their personal income, 86% endorse pro-climate social norms and 89% demand intensified political action." https://t.co/MRqDSWYmXy.

Mark-san has supported us many times throughout the project. I'm truly delighted I could express my gratitude in person yesterday when we first met! Thank you so much. And today, we interviewed Mark-san! After that, he interviewed us in return😆

NEWS: CBS News gutted its climate team as part of the big Paramount layoffs this week. These journalists had been doing incredible reporting on extreme heat, flooding, clean energy investments and more. I've got details for Climate-Colored Goggles:

Paramount and Bari Weiss aren't off to a great start. Here's why David Ellison should change course.

As someone who has worked literal years of 12-14+ hour overnights 4pm-5AM, 5pm-6AM, 6pm-7AM outside on the fuckin streets of NEW YORK CITY this means everything to me. Nobody sees these cabbies doing those night shifts or the entire world of workers running while you sleep
For New Yorkers who work the night shift, it can be nearly impossible to participate in political life of our city. So tonight we’re bringing this campaign to them — starting with taxi drivers waiting at LaGuardia.

Yeah. It’s Climate Change. In the last 45 years the most extreme Atlantic hurricanes have nearly doubled and extreme rapid intensification has increased by 6X!! #climatechange #melissa #hurricane #fyp #florida

Disappointingly little media attention being paid to this alarming new study. Instead, we're hearing about Bill Gates "tough truths" [read b.s.] downplaying the climate crisis. We are living in #DontLookUp

We are hurtling toward climate chaos. Planet's vital signs are flashing red. Consequences of human-driven alterations of the climate are no longer future threats but are here now. @michaelman @peterclick Read our full new State of the Climate report here:

Honored to be quoted in this strong @Sammy_Roth column about how @latimes (and, actually, most US news outlets) should be doing much better when reporting the climate story. @CoveringClimate has lots of resources that can help.
The @latimes does some of America's best climate journalism. Also, 13% of wildfire stories mentioning climate change is not nearly good enough. Some tough love (and advice) for my former employer:

My fellow journalists, please take note of the point climate scientist @KHayhoe is making here. The right question to address for our audiences is NOT, Did climate change cause Hurricane Melissa, but rather, How much worse did climate change make this particular hurricane?
Hurricane Melissa could be one of the most intense and devastating hurricanes on record for Jamaica...and it's rapidly becoming a textbook example of how climate change is making hurricanes more dangerous: explosive intensification, slow movement, and massive rainfall. More:

We cured diseases, fed billions, split atoms, mapped the genome. And somehow, people decided science was the enemy. The anti-science movement will go down as one of humanity’s most tragic self-inflicted wounds.

It’s “insane” because like your pal Matt Walsh you’ve never actually studied history. You MAGA folks revel in your ignorance and then act shocked and call educated scholars like Mahmood Mamdani “insane”. https://t.co/Ojzm2r8eWK
This is one of the most insane things I’ve ever heard, and I say that as someone who used to work at the Young Turks.

"Was it caused by climate change?" is the most common question when we hear about an extreme event. But when it comes to hurricanes, that's the wrong question. The right one is, "how much worse did climate change make it?" (thread)

40% of SNAP recipients are kids, 18% are elderly, 11% are disabled and of the rest, ~70% already have jobs. So unless your company’s hiring Junior Juice Box Interns, grandma and her walker, or knows how to fit more hours in a day, maybe cool it with the “just get a job” takes.
