One of the most severe marine heatwaves on Earth has developed off the coast of Ireland and the UK, with water temperatures as high as 4-5°C above normal. NOAA's Marine Heatwave Watch has categorized this event as a Category 4 (extreme) marine heatwave.

"the global-mean temperature indeed breached the 1.5°C limit in the first week of June" Then will come a month, then a year, then a decade, then a 30 year average, ... This is a good indication of how close we are to 1.5°C 😬... https://t.co/r1BoDtPoaO

I know there are a million people sharing temperature anomaly charts and maps lately, but there's a good reason for that. This is totally bonkers and people who look at this stuff routinely can't believe their eyes. Something very weird is happening.

The point of climate denial isn’t to convince us of an alternative fact but to muddy the waters and waste our time so we don’t focus on what’s really important, which is climate solutions (top 5: wind, solar, energy efficiency, stop deforestation, cut CH₄ emissions).

New @IPCC_CH Synthesis Report released One of the most impressive figures relates to the fairness across generations. The generation of my kids born in 2010s will face substantially more heatwaves, heavy rainfall and droughts during an average lifetime than their grandparents.

This image from today's IPCC synthesis report is brutal. The existing policy trajectory represents a profound failure of our governments, and of our international political system. We need much more aggressive mitigation and much stronger international cooperation.
