It’s not just about digital access; adult learners need digital literacy too. If we are going to close the digital divide, digital literacy is essential because adult learners must be digitally proficient to participate in the digital economy. #DIW2024 #NYCADE @NYCCAL

Thank you to @CMJulieWon ✨for spearheading this response letter to the current DYCD Literacy RFP and extending the thank you to the 42 city council members who signed on. DYCD needs to hear how detrimental the NTAs can be to serving the tens and thousands of adult ESOL students.

Well-said! There is no bigger commuter city than NYC. It's a shame that DYCD city funding is locking out programs and the tens of thousands of adult immigrants they serve by not being located within the designated NTA.

Our Adult Literacy Program serves New Yorkers from all 5 boroughs who travel to study with US. NYC needs to fund these programs in a way that effectively supports institutions doing the work. Thx to @CMCarlinaRivera + @ChrisMarteNYC for signing @CMJulieWon 's vital open letter.

City Hall could leave out 70% of currently-funded nonprofits from offering free English classes to our neighbors. Preventing New Yorkers with limited English proficiency, including asylum seekers from accessing ESOL classes is just wrong. Read more:

City Hall's adult literacy RFP could prevent tens of thousands of New Yorkers with limited English proficiency, including asylum seekers, from accessing education, jobs, and other opportunities. That's why @althea4theBX, @CMAlexaAviles and I wrote to @NYCYouth with 38 colleagues.

The #DigitalDivide is preventing some of our best teachers to be able to teach virtually or hesitant to bring tech into the classrooms. It creates barriers for adult learners, which can include educators from achieving their personal and professional goals. #DigitalInclusion
