Trauma Industrial Complex launches tonight at 7pm from

The Sun recorded a £51m loss this year and its value last year was written down to zero by its owner.
This front page is a great clue as to why billionaires continue to run tabloids at a loss.
When people get sanctioned for weeks for being two minutes late for job centre, nobody asks them if they were late because they were helping someone. Or caring for someone. They just get their money stopped and told to go fuck themselves.
Part of the reason public opinion is swaying in favour of the workers is because this guy understands how to deal with the media. Being right isn't enough these days. You also have to carry a clear message with discipline and style. A joy watching this today.
With respect to George Galloway's comments about 'jakies' on BBC Scotland, consider this: often an accent perceived as 'rough', conceals insight and intelligence. Similarly, its as often the case that a 'proper' accent conceals ignorance, prejudice and idiocy.
Humza Yousaf has taken a stand on this crisis that no prominent political figure was prepared to take.
For this, he will experience days of racist abuse and possible political consequences. Anyone who signals even a grudging respect of his conduct as a political leader with
Guy sleeping in a tent by the river. He's had his tent and belongings confiscated by police. The only reason he hasn't thrown himself in the Clyde is because he has a dog. Hostels won't take anyone with a dog. That's life on the margins right there. Heartbreaking stuff.
This morning my son learned that if he coughs in nursery he can come home and play his PS4 and eat ice lollies all day.
This afternoon he will learn that getting a Covid swab in Coatbridge is not very nice.
It's not about second jobs. It's about the same MPs who voted to cut Universal Credit by £80 a few weeks ago now claiming their £80k salary, and subsidised living costs is not enough for them to live on.
We are witnessing precisely how the system is rigged. Don't stand for it!
I think Janey Godley is being placed under unnecessary emotional pressure. People are now trying to get her sacked from other jobs. I genuinely think there's a vulnerability about her that many miss. Please accept her apologies now and stop trying to destroy her livelihood.
These massive Notre Dame donations are going to backfire on Macron. In a matter of 48 hours, the big question most people around the world are now asking is: what other pressing issues could the super-wealthy solve in a couple of days?
This is perhaps the ultimate question.
Starmer is now somehow almost in resignation territory. Arguably, the three most democratically legitimate figures in the Labour Party beside him - London mayor, Manchester mayor, and Scottish Labour Leader - now openly contradict his position on a ceasefire. This is not the kind…
Former male period dignity officer is lodging a sexual discrimination complaint. This reveals a few things:
1. The guy is a total fanny
2. The guys mates who advised him are total fannies
3. The people who gave him the job in the first place are also total fannies
The only reason nobody told you to go fuck yourself is because food banks have to remain politically neutral. The resources and energy being diverted to simply absorbing the impact of Universal Credit is akin to preparing for a war. You're a fucking arse, Ross.
Hard not to think someone is deliberately trolling by appointing a guy as a period dignity officer. You go to all the trouble of creating the position and passing the legislation and then you take a steaming dump all over it.
Emily Maitlis deserves a medal. Who else can you say effectively ended the career or a member of the royal family by holding them to account? There is NOTHING she said last night that can be refuted. She was spot on. She spoke the truth.
Hey
@KayBurley
, as a Scot I'm totally cool with being shit at footy. You aren't paying attention to the areas where we lead UK: Violence reduction, gender equality, lgbtq inclusive education, constitutional crisis management and a parliament united against xenophobia 😀
I've been dealing with longstanding debt for over three years. Chopping away at it. Followers might see me complain about it from time to time. It was a large sum and i also incurred thousands in fines and penalties.
I signed up to payment plans I knew were not sustainable just…
So Sturgeon was right then? After being accused of grandstanding and opportunism around mass gatherings, the UK govt actually u-turned to adopt the policy she outlined 24 hours prior.
She is a kid. You are grown woman. The future belongs to her. You are already a relic. The day someone puts me in a TV studio with you is the day your career ends. Enjoy holiday 😉
Hats off to Sturgeon. Easier to be anti racist on Twitter. Not easy to look two fuckheads in the eye and call them exactly what they are...on the street...with no security!
That interaction right there is newsworthy.
Its been ages since I had positive news to share. Well today, i do!
My new series 'Darren McGarvey's Class Wars' is preparing for launch - sooner than I thought.
Four 1-hour films exploring an issue many tell me is no longer relevant 🙃
Starts Feb 9, 2200,
@BBC
Scotland
Good luck to any1 hoping to spin what happened in Kenmure St into an 'SNP grievance' take. This resistance occurred at the level of the community and the Scottish government responded, in my view, correctly. If this opens a wider debate on immigration, we should all welcome it.
Lying under an immigration enforcement van is a bit more than virtue signalling mate. These acts of resistance in the face of state violence formed the basis of every right and privilege you have.
As I said the other day, I'm co- hosting the big Cop26 rally in Glasgow Green, featuring international speakers including the incomparable
@GretaThunberg
.
I'm keen to do what I can do get the message to working class communities ahead of it that this is their fight, too.
Given the year everyone's had, might it not have been more ethical to round the grades up rather than down? On a purely moral basis, when considering not only the impact of lockdown on schools, but also on pupils prospects for work, couldn't they have done with a boost?
Can't wait to see my son's face in the morning. And can't wait for his sister to arrive in April. Every day, I wake up in a life I used to dream about. Every year, bad memories lose their hold and are replaced with new, happy ones.
I think I am beginning to enjoy Christmas. x
I don't think I can even bring myself to address this food poverty discussion. What else is there to say? How much energy is wasted trying to debate with people who think child poverty is as simple as just buying eggs every day? I can't do this anymore.
Positive news on a dreary day. I've managed to secure some funding to create a social platform that will promote the voices of people from under privileged backgrounds.
After all the games Douglas Ross played, curdling the well, he's going down with the same sleazy ship as the rest of them. £30k undeclared earnings - more than the average salary. I look forward to hearing his excuse, but don't have it in me to reserve judgement right now.
Can someone explain to Rachel Reeves that the number of people off sick is partly a consequence of a collapsing NHS and that getting people back to work requires action on that rather than framing the issue as one about scroungers
It's fucked up that things like free speech and personal responsibility are now regarded as right wing ideas. Simply mentioning them raises eye brows in some left wing circles. That's how detached from reality some have been allowed to become.
Millions now set to experience what our poor and vulnerable citizens regard as normal. Fewer choices. Low degrees of social mobility. Inability to access vital services. A nightmarish welfare state. A skeletal health service. For millions this was the reality before covid19.
Feeling grateful to have found recovery as I reflect on the 22nd anniversary of my Mother's passing. She was only 36 when she died. The idea addiction is a choice upsets me, but I forgive all who choose to believe that falsehood and I'm grateful that I can be here for my kids.…
The level of inequality in the UK is disturbing.
I've written an open letter to Prime Minister
@RishiSunak
and have sent him and every MP a copy of my book.
.
People pay him to play videogames in his own house. This is a job he chose after walking away from an unblemished and successful career in comedy and television. He could fill a theatre every night if he wanted to yet has instead taken a decision to do what makes him happiest.…
Still awake thinking how Ben Fogle tweeted an idea he stole from his kid like it was his own and then used his kid as a human shield when everyone (unaware of the child's existence) rightly pointed out the idea was daft. Fuckery on so many levels.
Finally my outstanding debts, from years of adversity and bevvying, are not only settled but the blemishes are now completely wiped from my credit-rating. A fresh start. Skint right now, but only because I have invested a lot in people I love and my family. Happy days!
Don't know who needs to hear this but you shouldn't have to gentrify the way you speak to accommodate the poor communication skills of the privately educated.
Exclusive: Senior Downing Street staff joked about holding a Christmas party in Number 10 just four days after event is alleged to have taken place last December
Watch full video here:
Too much discourse about working class parents and how they ought to care for their kids and not enough discourse about the neglect and abuse perpetrated by rich parents who outsource parenting to weird opaque private education systems that turn their kids into sociopaths 😀
BREAKING: Sir Kier Starmer pledges to base Great British energy company in Scotland to make Scotland feel more included and totally not because Scotland is where all the energy in Britain is.
More as we have it
My partner has decided to deal with the disappointment of the election by setting up a Christmas Toy Bank for families of young children. Any help in publicising it is welcome also. Looking at you 'MSM' 😉
Please Retweet. Thank you x
Mute me if my promoting the book I've worked on for 4 years while going through my own personal hell somehow irritates you.
Everyone else, thanks for the support.
Something really nice about listening to old breakup songs safe in the knowledge that you and your mrs actually made it through the madness and back into each other's arms. 10 years. Never a dull moment. Getting married this Sunday!
I just have to share that while dealing with a very challenging health problem, I have also managed to stay with the writing, despite the urge just to sleep, and this persistence has paid off massively. I just wrote the last line of the very first draft of my second book x
Gove says "not everyone is in the same position". Stunning observation. He is of course absolutely correct. Not everyone has an extended family. A car. Access to multiple properties. The right to break the law with impunity. Permission to act without consulting their boss. 😀
Can I amend this headline for you? Ok, here goes.
MAN DRUGS ENTIRE FAMILY BEFORE STABBING WIFE 60 TIMES AND DRAGGING HIS CHILDREN OVER A CLIFF-EDGE WITH HIM
Embarrassingly petty. Serious small country syndrome.A laugh's alright, obviously, and part of the fun but I don't really see any self aware humour here.
Am I missing something? Is this a good look for us?
Finally! After 3 years of crazy ups and downs, false starts and moments where I felt I might throw in the towel, my second book is complete. Thanks to everyone at
@penguinrandom
and
@EburyPublishing
for their support.
Pre-order NOW:
Hopefully armchair detectives are happy that Nicola Bulley's struggles with alcohol and menopause are now out there for everyone to read. Family must be thrilled as well.
Great job guys.
So glad BigGreg736 is leading this investigation from his Facebook account.
So basically you'll have working class kids who were getting B's in prelims being hit with an F for the first time. While up the food chain A's will be dished out to pupils who were getting B's.
Just want to say thanks to the people who challenged me for proposing a walk and talk in the park last week. Seven days ago this situation felt entirely different. The guidance was different. The public mood was different. I'm glad I cancelled. You were right. I was wrong x
On QT a few weeks ago I speculated that countries where social inequality is higher may see higher mortality rates. Got shouted down. ONS has now confirmed the virus impacts deprived communities more. US/UK are where inequality is most pronounced in developed economies.
I have a daughter. Words fail me for the first time - nearly. Thank you to all the staff at the Royal Infirmary. And to my strong, beautiful and courageous fiance: I can think of nothing better to do with the rest of my life than spend it with you raising our beautiful children x
I know Mackay has fucked up. That he must be held accountable. But I also hope he has support of friends and family. He is definitely at risk in terms of mental health/suicide given his age, the fact he's male, and the enormous sense of shame, pressure and fear he'll be feeling.
Lassie in the post office asked for my name when I was dropping a load of parcels to be posted. I said my name. She said interesting that I had same name as a sociologist she was studying. I said what does he write about. She said poverty. I said it might be me but I'm not a
For men out there who feel they should say or do something in response to the justified anger and dismay following the murder of another woman. Speak to women in your life. Listen. Read female writers, academic literature. Visit websites of women's groups.
Many would be shocked by the sheer volume of correspondence I get from people all over the world, deeply moved simply by seeing their experiences as working class people reflected authentically in culture. The accent shaming stuff is one aspect of a much wider issue.
We always focus on the trauma experienced by the poor and how it damages society. I think we are now witnessing how being packed off to private school for years can also be traumatic for some; shaping emotionally stilted, pathologically insensitive people who fall upward.
Shout to everyone who hung on over ten years of austerity. The single parents working multiple jobs while kayaking against a political tsunami. The families who lost kids and siblings and parents to suicide and drugs. The children excluded from school and put in care. I see you x
Found this on the pavement on my way back from nursery. Not the first time either. Who knows it could be table salt. Either way its in the bin.
That is the power of recovery.
Just over a year ago that would have been up my beak - salt or no salt.
Whether my comrades on the hard left like it or not, my recollection of Labour winning in 97 was a very sudden and visible rise in the quality of life in my community. Many of these advances have been offset by austerity certainly, but to say life did not improve is disingenuous.
Convicted sex offender Bill Cosby gets released on a technicality while Britney Spears is effectively imprisoned indefinitely by a judge for once having a mental health problem.
America - fuck yeah
Johnson has told friends that he needs to earn about £300,000 a year — twice his salary — to keep his head above water, while a former No 10 insider said it was “received wisdom” that he is permanently broke.
I don't need a tax cut, Boris. I want stronger public services. A welfare state that supports single mum's getting back into education rather than penalising them. Support for homeless people. Action on predatory businesses that farm the poor for profit and a PM with principles.
I hope the O2 ABC venue is not overlooked in the aftermath of this fire. It was a world class music venue, used by thousands of people every month. Also a great platform for local artists to get a shot on the big stage supporting international acts. A very special place x
You can't say 'scum' in parliament but you can vote to kill people slowly while lining your own pockets and those of your mates.
That's the true absurdity of the illusion of honorability in the UK Parliament
Concerning lived experience...
I am one of those people often referred to as having ‘lived experience’ – a label given to those of us who are not professionally qualified to assert the things we do who are instead authenticated by the adversities we have suffered. If you spend
