ICYMI: Endangered sawfish & other species - tarpon, rays, permit and lots of baitfish - are turning up dead or sick in the Lower Keys. Scientists & fishing guides are collecting info. To report kills or unusual fish behavior, the state hotline is: 1-800-636-0511 or 1-844-SAWFISH
Scientists are in the early stages of investigating the unusual event, but worried after the blistering summer heat wave that more hazards could follow. It’s still not clear if they’re related, other culprits are at play, or both.
