I received a similar email when I applied to graduate school. I doubt that the person who wrote it remembers, but I certainly do.
I need to acknowledge our director of grad studies @GregoryRSL for treating all students—current, past, accepted, & rejected—with the kindness that academia can so sadly lack. He’s going viral on Reddit for his thoughtful rejection letters, & I hope other programs follow suit.
