How did I get the username I use when I talk about books? So glad you asked! My spouse is nicknamed CornMuscles, so his folks always called me Mrs. Corn. I hoard books. Kinda like a dragon hoards gold. So I’m MrsCornTheBookDragon Wherever people talk books, you know.

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: “It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use

if you want to do “6 months locked in”. i’d suggest you start with 1 hour. one book. 50 pages. each day, fighting your urge to touch the phone. and gradually, you’ll see your attention span coming back home to you, and by the end of the year you will have lived your best life.

My niche conspiracy theory is that they stopped teaching cursive so that we can't read historical texts.

I’ve watched over a 100 movies and series alone this year, I can tweet about it and no one will doubt me. But if I said I read over a 100 books, suddenly mental gymnastics will start.

You spend 15 hours on social media a day of course you think that reading 50-100 books a year is impossible. You’re reading the equivalent of 200 books a year scrolling mindlessly every day. It’s certainly not impossible. Your attention span is just shot to hell & you’re envious.

Read publicly. Read privately. Read long books. Read short stories. Read occasionally. Read constantly. Read quickly. Read slowly. Read romance. Read classics. Read nonfiction. Read to learn. Read for fun! Read however, whatever and whenever you want! READ UNAPOLOGETICALLY!!!

For everyone who wants to talk about absorbing what I’m reading, when was the last time you did a reading sprint? When was the last time you pushed yourself to understand something fully, as quickly as possible? Why are you mad at me for showing the results of skills I practiced?

People that can’t sit still and read for 3hrs are jealous of those that have read over 100 books this year.

You guys have been reading Self help all year and we can’t still see the growth. No improved vocabulary, no improved knowledge of places, zero growth in being empathetic, still toxic and vile asf.

the assumption that reading fiction doesn’t help you develop as a person is incredibly flawed, and showcases that you’re in no position to declare what does or does not help someone develop as a person. not only does reading in general expand one’s vocabulary (development
i have an unpopular opinion reading fiction (or any books that don’t help you develop as a person) is as much a waste of time as watching movies. nothing to brag about

Empathy is worked out like a muscle when you read fiction, because all those characters’ internal monologues teach you how other people think. You don’t get that level of information with other media formats. The decline in readership is part of why we’re in an empathy shortage.

Honestly…I get the idea but I think the NHL gets major points for allowing players and families be together on holidays We don’t need to watch hockey on Christmas Eve/Christmas Let families be with families and enjoy time with their loved ones…we can’t forget our humanity
Folks…idea..maybe a dumb one but maybe not…NHL should jump on Dec 24, there’s nothing on…make it yearly.. Rangers Vs Islanders Devils Vs Philly Kings Vs Ducks No travel, sleeping at home, spread em out over the course of the day. Pre-game skates illegal. Thoughts?

Don’t let anyone bully you into thinking you’re pretentious just because you read and know things. If more of us spent time passionately pursuing knowledge in books and libraries, we wouldn’t be suffering a literacy crisis.
