Reading again the essay by Walter Noll, The Role of the Professor. He "lives" his subject and cannot easily switch it off, even while lying in bed awake or on vacation. He recreates the subject in his mind each time he lectures on it. https://t.co/T09LkIsHD6

In 1994, I went for my first sabbatical, at Max Planck Institute for Metals Research, in Stuttgart, Germany. My host, Manfred Rühle, let me alone. In the Institute Library, I discovered Gibbs’s paper on phases in a pure substance. What a revelation! https://t.co/qnf62DT7No

Many thanks for highlighting this. We feel grateful a recent award from the ACS Petroleum Research Fund, seeking a new direction for harnessing mechanical deformation to engineer nanoparticle transport, potentially beneficial for enhanced oil recovery and drilling fluid design.
ME’s Shaoting Lin will use a new two-year grant from the ACS Petroleum Research Fund to explore fundamentals associated with particle transport that govern petroleum applications in oil refining, such as the release of catalyst agents and removal of petroleum contaminants.

A powerful strategy to develop materials for sustainability is to reimagine the existing economically important materials. In a new paper published in Nature Sustainability, we show that the performance of natural rubber can be greatly enhanced. https://t.co/aqEGr02C5X

We report a mechano-diffusion mechanism that harnesses mechanical deformation to control particle diffusion in hydrogels with a significantly enlarged tuning ratio and a highly expanded tuning freedom. Thanks the support from NSF Biosensing Program and NSF CAREER Program.
I am thrived to share our work titled "Mechano-Diffusion of Particles in Stretchable Hydrogels" is published in Soft Matter. Hearty congrats to Chuwei Ye, Congjie Wei, Jiabin Liu, and Tsz Hung Wong. Paper Link: https://t.co/DiJjAwVFuc

We feel grateful for NSF support. Great work with @RuobingB on this collaborative project. We use experiment and theory to uncover the role of topological defects on mechanics of end-linked polymer networks with strain induced crystallization. This is 4th NSF grant in my group.
My collaborator @lin_shaoting and I are grateful to NSF and our Program Directors at the MoMS program for their continuous support for fundamental science. I want to send my highest respect and best wishes to all our unsung heroes at @NSF during this special time.
