“I feel like we are nearing to the end of the times. We humans are losing faith in ourselves.” – H. Miyazaki. Is AI “anti-humanity”? If so should black metal embrace it?. Some thoughts on what the Draugveil AI accusations can tell us about AI and art….

Friends, foes, and folks who don’t know why they’re still following me on here,. I’m going to go sit in the woods for a few days. Assuming a bear doesn’t eat me and/or the world doesn’t end I’ll be back in mid-July. Stay safe. Take care of each other. Here are some cats…

If everyone was as on board and enthusiastic about AI as the AI boosters insist they are, the AI boosters wouldn’t need to spend so much time and energy screaming about how everyone is on board and enthusiastic about AI.

This isn’t the equivalent of the Daily Show segment that helped put the final nails into Google Glass’s coffin, but segments like this are an important testament to the fact that despite what AI advocates like to say there’s a lot of skepticism and opposition towards AI….

Was very excited when Last Week Tonight asked @404media.co to help out with research/fact checking for an AI Slop segment that ran last night. I thought it turned out very good! Here's a few mentions of our reporting, and the full segment:

I’ve said it before, but the deluge of AI generated bullshit is going to make it more important than ever to start teaching things like cover letter writing/résumé writing. Amidst all of the AI generated swill, knowing how to write/sound human will become increasingly valuable.

Recruiters face 45% surge in AI-crafted résumés. hitting 11,000 submissions per minute. Many résumés now mirror job-description keywords from simple ChatGPT prompts. AI agents auto-apply on behalf of candidates, forcing firms into an AI vs AI screening arms race.

Throughout history new technologies (not just computer related ones) have often been met with concerns about what their impacts may be on how people think. But just because people have often been concerned doesn’t mean their concerns have been baseless or ultimately inaccurate.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: people should really read David Noble’s “The Religion of Technology” and Jacques Ellul’s “The New Demons.”. People treating technology as a religion (and faith in technology having religious undertones) is not a new phenomena.

I think, if we had to be honest about it, many of us would have to admit that we know more about the NYC mayoral race than we do about the last/next mayoral race where we actually live.
