Hey formerly twitter. I haven't been here for months but I wanted to shout into the void that if things aren't right then have the courage to change. My life, my home, my children feels so much better. It's easier to stay but sometimes you need to take a leap of faith

I've not been on twitter for a while but it's my last day working in Gloucester today. I'm sad to be leaving teams of colleagues who I will miss but hopefully I have an exciting new start in Wales around the corner. Any words of wisdom?

The Pac-Man Rule ( https://t.co/vcfxOlTblY) I absolutely love this - when standing around having coffee always leave a gap / empty chair to enable someone else to join. More pearls of wisdom from @tom_geraghty @Kindness_Health

Anyone else thinking we need an ad campaign that says the real experience of cancer is nothing like the movies and that's ok. Sometimes we fight cancer by having a cup of tea, walking around the garden or having a cry and sharing how we feel with someone. It's ok to not be ok

We need both divergent thinking (generating a wide range of views, ideas or possibilities) & convergent thinking (evaluating, comparing & narrowing down choices) if we want to find better solutions. Too often, we leave out the divergent phase altogether or we don't involve enough

One of our IMT docs passed MRCP part 1! I am overjoyed and wanted to share the joy. I know it can feel like no one cares but I will guarantee I'm not the only one who gets excited for their trainee's victories. Congratulations to all who passed, well done!

I have realised the real benefit of the hospital accommodation my generation got wasn't so much that it was free (honestly, some of it wasn't worth paying for!). But that we didn't have to stress about finding somewhere to live at short notice.

A month ago tomorrow I asked NHSE's press office how many graduating doctors had been left with an unallocated F1 position. I've heard it could be up to 1000 and some could only be told where they are going in July - less than a month before they are due to start work 1/2

I'm seeing healthcare from the other side and realise, I probably don't talk to relatives enough. And I don't understand how we manage this slow process of dying of old age... It feels easier when there is a specific problem and timeframe but that's probably the bias of my job

There is no ‘backstory’ to ending of 2/care @NHSPracHealth other than (we’re told) - no budget. To remind, it was established following suicide of a psychiatry who also killed her baby and highlighted the barriers doctors have in accessing mental health care.

Want to train more resilient doctors? Don't push them, give them autonomy. Athletes who have autonomy-supporting coaches are more resilient. Why? Because they perceive better satisfaction of basic physiological needs.

NEW: we need to talk about NHS staff retention. At a time when Britain’s healthcare system is acutely short of workers, *1 in 7* UK-trained doctors are practising overseas. No other developed country is like this, which immediately tells you there’s a problem. Let’s dig deeper:
