I’d argue Police Story was Jackie’s finest and most personal work. It articulated the pride and frustrations of the working stuntmen inside a greedy and spineless system than any “film on film” ever could - culminating into this epic rant. No wonder his boys went so hard for him.
So, I’m thinking about… The Young Master Project A Project A Part II Police Story Miracles Drunken Master II Operation Condor That’s my too 7 in no particular order. To round them off to a top 10 I’d include Drunken Master, Police Story 2 and Dragons Forever.

A culture of the stupidest fucking people who take pride in being ripped off, thinking that their life and everything in society should be sacrificed so that rich people can further enrich themselves. And they see that as not only healthy but the righteous path.

Every time an actor or director hangs out with one of these military advisers they are never the same again afterwards

@theericjacobus haha @KenjiTanigaki-san would've loved to hear thoughts! the tech was very new so it had many limitations but also created a lot of new possibilities, especially with the way you have been shooting!

shot a fight scene using a crazy 75-camera array setup yesterday. The boom couldn’t get too close so Rustic and @theericjacobus had to record wild lines after. The mixer originally just asked for a sample of sounds but Rustic could only perform if he went through the whole fight.

Luckily - The Furious next spring will show America what a bunch of backwards sillygooses we all have been, and what happens when you ask martial artists to believe in their characters, no matter how silly the script might be.

the movie looks this way because the adage since "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" was that you'd rather teach a good actor how to fight then to teach a fighter how to act. but 30 years later we should finally admit that the adage was patronizing and shit has gotten very stale.

the scene that accidentally kicked off the mandate for every action movie to have at least one shot where the good guy drags a goon's face through a griddle
Few action stars sell their desperation in the action and then the impact of the violence they inflicted like Iko. The Raid 2 stows this perfectly in this fight scene from his rapid arm beaks and movement to the look on his face after…chilling. Storytelling through action!

All due respect to the poster, but I have been seeing this type of defense for a film more and more lately: “this film is actually about [name an issue]!” But, to quote the great Roger Ebert: “it’s not what a film is about, it’s how it’s about it.” ambition vs execution, etc.

How come the cinematography in modern Japanese films always either looks like the most moody and textured image you’ve ever seen - or they always look like those “cinematic” intros you seen on an expensive wedding videographer’s website?

Kinda like when I once had a general with an exec who clearly was only there cause he had a crush on my agent, he was on his phone the entire time but every few minutes he’d say to me “yeah keep going this is really good I’m taking so many notes” I actually admired the brazenness
Apparently Jeff Buckley was super excited to hear Radiohead were at his show until he learned they’d left early. He thought they hated his performance, but they were actually so moved they rushed to the studio 1/2

It’s my birthday today. One of the highlights over the past year was being invited to talk about my next feature High Priestess of Souls, about a fake exorcist auntie in sf chinatown for the Sundance catalyst program. They asked if I could open with an exorcism and i obliged.

Why do they have so many of these in Utah
My brother-in-law's Harry Potter themed Airbnb in small-town Utah is killing it It's got everything in 7k sq ft: secret passages, pickleball court, indoor slide, Platform 9 3/4, Gringotts Bank, house-themed rooms, moving pictures, the fat lady portrait.
