Another reason is some people freeze after criticism. Those with low self esteem and self worth. And those with abandonment wounds. They may struggle changing after criticism because they get defeatist and feel they’ve already lost you or they’re just not good enough for you. So

Also it’s about reinvention too. Sometimes when someone’s known you as a particular type of person for so long, there’s this weird thing we get about being perceived while changing after receiving criticism. It’s like you get awkward or feel stuck in your ways. Easier to reinvent

As much as it might hurt, I don’t think a lot of folks realize how many ppl do not have the capacity to hold you in moments like those. Most ppl run from themselves and numb their own pain. They’re gonna avoid everyone else’s too.
