fellow trans people know how unnecessarily long the name change process is and how each milestone (birth certificate, passport, license etc...) is a celebration! finally got my amended birth certificate in the mail (and shortly before my birthday too, how special!!) 😄🏳️⚧️⚧️

Yep! Especially for lgbtq—specifically transgender and gender diverse—individuals like myself, sometimes options can feel really limited. I absolutely cant go somewhere that would make it difficult for me to continue transitioning, even if a faculty member there is a perfect fit.

When these disparities ARE studied, it is not often you find actual trans people carrying out the research! We deserve representation as both the focus and the heads of research efforts! Would love to connect with more trans people in academia/research today! (2/2)

Agreed! I have such complicated feelings abt this bc, ofc, it's critical for "outsiders" to be interested in this work & trans people shouldn't have to shoulder all the burden--but with how small this area of research is atm, it's so important that we are the ones to lead :/
