For years I thought I just wasn't good at maths, or physics, or running, or playing an instrument. Then it turned out that if you start by working hard on the basics, early success leads to motivation, leads to me running an effing marathon.... me! ... a marathon!...
No one is intrinsically ‘maths anxious’. What they’re scared of is ‘doing badly and looking dumb.’ The solution to maths anxiety is ‘teaching mathematical foundations more robustly’ not spurious interventions aimed at the fear itself. Competence breeds confidence.
