Saw this while knocking doors yesterday. Proud dad told me all about his teenage daughter who has gotten super invested in the election and came up with the idea. The kids are okay.

People visit my office regularly, especially in the winter, to tell us they're struggling to pay their utility bills. So I'm proud the House voted to reauthorize Chapter 14, which affords protections like payment plans, so our neighbors can avoid shutoffs and keep the lights on.

Proud to share we passed H.B. 1077 out of the House today with bipartisan support! This bill is crucial to expanding access to essential utilities like water, electricity and gas. Thanks to @RobMatzie and @CLSphila for their perseverance getting this over the finish line.

The utility reauthorization bill passes the house with extra protections for consumers. 🙌 @RobMatzie
State Rep. Rob Matzie (D., Beaver) counters that "folk in Blair County struggle with the utility bill as much as in Philadelphia" and asks for a yes vote.

Republicans side with utility companies and their scare tactics. Democrats stand up for customers - for people.
On the House floor, state Rep. Craig Williams (R., Chester) argues that a bill to reauthorize the state's utility code with some extra protections for consumers will lead to higher rates for everyone (echoing utility companies.)

So glad to see this legislation pass the house with bipartisan support!
People who are working in good faith to pay their bills should not be denied heat and electricity. I just voted to make sure utility companies treat customers who have fallen on hard times fairly (HB1077). It can be a matter of life and death.

Today, in session, I voted yes on HB1077, which updates Pennsylvania’s law requiring utilities to provide Customer Assistance Programs to those who fall behind on payments.

This is horrifying from a conservation nonprofit.
ICYMI: @audubonsociety CEO @DrElizabethGray would rather join Elon Musk and others in attacking federal labor law as unconstitutional than settle the multiple Unfair Labor Practices that Audubon management has committed. More here and below: https://t.co/QkdFN9isch

The only correct response to the Sixers moving to Jersey so of course it comes from @SenatorSaval
Asked Gov. Josh Shapiro earlier today about reports of the Philadelphia 76ers receiving a written proposal to build a new arena in New Jersey. He said he’s confident they will continue to play in Philly. Here’s his response and my story: https://t.co/FcgDlGaMHo

It drives me absolutely bonkers to think about the amount of advocacy needed to make processes equitable - when it should be the bare minimum. This article about the inner workings of utility rate cases in New York rings true here in PA too. https://t.co/bAhFA61TPO

New York's consumer advocacy groups struggle to compete with well-funded utilities and corporations. Lawmakers want to level the playing field.

And what do we do when our public spaces can’t keep cool either? We cannot just have cooling centers - we need to ensure cooling in every home in Philadelphia. Which starts - but does not end - with ensuring households are not shut off in extreme heat. https://t.co/pRoIl4q2aj

Philly libraries are used as cooling centers during extreme heat. But many have unreliable A/C.
It’s now the first week of school and many Philadelphia schools had half days due to lack of proper cooling in schools. If those children also don’t have cooling at home, we are failing them multiple times over. 3/3

It’s critical for policymakers to address the risk of shutoffs for all households but especially vulnerable households, ensuring electric bills remain affordable, and making all homes safe and habitable. 2/3

The climate crisis isn’t just coming, it’s here. I was honored to speak with the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago about the critical need to address the impacts of extreme heat in households. 1/3
