Genuinely excited to find out how this will go horribly wrong. "AI-powered talking Copernicus robot unveiled in Warsaw on astronomer’s 550th birthday" https://t.co/JrHtdW9zfe

AI will (most likely) not gain sentience in our lifetime. But what it is doing right now is replacing human labor with bad facsimiles, making public communication worse, automating prejudices, strengthening monopolies, and creating new ways to terrorize each other.

Tomorrow I'm testifying in the Missouri Senate that SB14, a bill that would make it impossible to change the gender marker on a birth certificate, is a violation of my religious freedom as a Jew. Judaism is a tradition that has long understood there to be multiple genders.

Fascinating audit of social media "raciness" classifiers that don't understand context and are massively biased toward labeling images of women's bodies as sexual. Posts classified racy get shadowbanned. By @gianlucahmd and @HilkeSchellmann.

Guardian exclusive: AI tools rate photos of women as more sexually suggestive than those of men, especially if nipples, pregnant bellies or exercise is involved

Every single person freaking out at the "woke ideology" of ChatGPT scoffed at the idea that algorithms can be racist like three years ago.

Reminder: Multiple Chinese spies were caught lurking around Mar-a-Lago. With infiltration equipment. When he had classified documents lying around. China respects Trump like a dog respects a fire hydrant.

First @Zoom and now @eBay—tech layoffs aren't stopping. If we want a say in protecting our jobs, we must keep organizing. It doesn't have to be this way.

So we’re really going to transition from “no one wants to work anymore” to mass layoffs by multibillion dollar corporations without acknowledging it, huh?

I’m 💯 listening to Lynda Carter as an artist who is an SME; an actor that’s studied the display of body language, eye contact, and facial expressions for decades. Also because she’s gd Wonder Woman.

That AI eye contact thing is ridiculous. Eye contact is like the wasabi of acting. Too much is too spicy…

The US has screwed itself with unsustainable, short-sighted systemic failures in healthcare, pandemic response, education, gun reform, living wages. There have to be urgent and sweeping reforms that are unlikely to happen.

PhDs aren’t cheap, either. Like many in similar positions, I made choices to borrow as my only alternative while working FTE & in school and now I have student loans instead of a house or savings. Education and training shouldn’t come with a lifetime of debt for anyone. Anyone.
