Thanks to Anna Lee Iijima and @chicagotribune for stopping by to taste mature vintages with me!

Setting aside a nice bottle, or seeking out and purchasing mature ones, can be a meaningful way to commemorate life’s big moments, whether the birth of a child, a wedding, graduation, and beyond.

I would've loved to have been at this wine tasting of Burgundy and top-level German Pinot Noir.

One historic landmark in the Austrian wine region is the *Göttweig Abbey* (Stift Göttweig). This Benedictine monastery, located in the Wachau Valley, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a significant cultural and historical landmark.

The Thorle experience. Sensational dry Riesling and top-class Spätburgunder from three single-vineyards in Saulheim (Rheinhessen): Schlossberg, Probstey, and Hölle. Psst, Silvaner and Chardonnay are outstanding here too!

I love this region and love working with this estate even more. These are top-tier Sauvignons, Gelber Muskatellers, and Burgunders from one of the very best in Südsteiermark.
Karin & Hannes from Weingut Hannes Sabathi are among the small group of outstanding Styrian estates known as the STK (that's STK - Die Steirischen Terroir- und Klassikweingüter). With exceptionally high standards and holdings in classified sites near the Slovenian border.

Standing in Ried Krainer with Johannes of Weingut Nehrer, white Leithakalk soil easily seen on the surface. A 94+ score from A La Carte Magazine for '22 Chardonnay Ried Krainer is no surprise. One of the finest Austrian Chardonnays we've tasted! #wine

Among Weingut Korrell's strengths is its impressive vineyard holdings spanning the Nahe Valley. Four sites comprise the '22 Riesling Von den Ersten Lagen bottling: Felsenberg, Königsfels, in den Felsen, & Rotenfels—a masterpiece from these volcanic slopes.

P2 at @BanvilleWine stands for Passion Project. ROCKWERK is the P2 of @jessebeckerms & friends. A certified sustainable Grüner Veltliner hewn from the rocky soils of Lower Austria. Gnomes are real, you know 😉. #wine #gnome #austria

A pair of Rheinhessen Silvaner with excellent sushi today. Ingelheim and Saulheim. Limestone expressions, neutral wood, lees. Silvaner is Puligny-like at this level.

Blaufränkisch at Burg Ravensburg in Baden. It's soil and history.
Gipskeuper at Burg Ravensburg, the gypsum marl sandstone also found in Württemberg. Ideally suited to Blaufränkisch and Riesling. Count von Neipperg imported Blaufränkisch from Lemberg to Württemberg in 1877 before it traveled 20 kilometers west to Baden, shortly thereafter #wine

Having worked w/ @weingut_prager for many years, we never once visited the cellar. I barely recall discussing winemaking w/ the Bodensteins. Always in the vineyards, climbing terraces, talking history, fish at Heinzle, but winemaking: there's almost nothing to say. Pure terroir.
Repost: @PigottRiesling - "Thanks to @weingut_prager @ilse_siri in the #wachau for one of the most amazing bottles of dry #riesling I ever drank! From what is probably the highest altitude Riesling vineyard in #austria this was breathtakingly racy, precise and mineral."
