Xavi's in Barça's rebuild is what Koeman fans wanted Koeman to be - but unlike Koeman, Xavi's not arrogant and has enough humility to recognize he's out of it - Koeman destroyed everything, Xavi recognized it.
It takes a lot of humility. Forever grateful - horrible end.
Basque culture is difficult to grasp if you haven't been there, or you don't know the locals. Their attachment to their land, culture and language form an immovable identity that money can't just strike through — thankfully enough, in a world of globalization, they resist.
The legacy of José Mourinho, besides being called a winner, is precisely that ugly side — one that he never tried to hide in the first place.
He divides, convinced his men the entire system is against them, and the toxicity transcends to all ranks, including fans.
Despicable.
Embarassing Roma fans abusing Anthony Taylor who is with family on his way at the airport.
Disgusting. You can see his daughter in tears and drinks being thrown at his wife too.

Instead of talking about Lionel Messi, the footballing world should talk about the insanity that Aitana Bonmatí is.
Stepped in during the best of times, and completely bossed it and took over the wheel when Alexia Putellas got injured.
She's so good, nobody saw any other
A world ruled by introverts. Pep, KdB, Messi, Pedri...the world we live in is a good one. And many of those might become technicians (eyeing Busquets, for example). There should be more studies around introverts/extroversion in elite football.
Ousmane Dembélé is the biggest lesson to the footballing world when it comes to reality against wishful thinking. Barça fans kept wishing, remembering of a few moments (Tottenham, ATL) and kept looking back at his time with Tuchel at Dortmund instead of realizing the reality.
Araújo's quote reflects a lack of self-criticism, and in many ways, it explains why he has done the same mistake, over and over, throughout the season.
If he wants to become a leader, he will have to learn to take criticism, because Gündogan was absolutely right.
Mikayil Fayé showed yesterday a glimpse of why he was brought to Barcelona. For many, he's a nobody, arrived out of the blue, with little to justify given he's not played in a T5 European League. He also isn't the typical highly-prized South American wonderkid.

Excerpt from Mitomas's thesis:
“I learned that the good players weren’t looking at the ball [...] They would look ahead, trap the ball without looking down at their feet. That was the difference. I was one of the better dribblers at that time, but not exceptional.”.
Soon ✍️
He might be new, but he's spot on. This is the product of someone who's been coached by top coaches, who's learned how the elite works: mentality is a big differential, and Gundogan was partly brought for that.
Ilkay Gundogan called out his Barcelona teammates for their lack of passion after the club's El Clasico loss 😳
'I didn't come here to lose these type of games'.
The details |

Alejandro Baldé has become the type of the player to make fans questions whether those silky filthy touches are intentional or whether they're accidental; that's *how* good Alejandro Baldé is.
Impossible to rivalize 1v1 given the wide array of options Baldé keeps finding.
Xavi lost to one of the best adaptable managers of the world.
But Barça fans will create drama out of something they originally didn't care about. Instead of the positive, it's the negatives that are talked about.
Patience. Calma.
Trust the process and enjoy the journey.
Barcelona pressed more (~215) times than Real Madrid (~185). That, while enjoying 60% possession (& 40% for Real).
This is insanity. Good insanity. The insanity the fans wanted and that everyone likes.
Ernesto Valverde, on what made Pep's legacy so unique:
‘What Pep achieved at Barça and
Bayern was to teach his teams how to organise an almost impenetrable defence.
People tend to think that his greatest skill’s in attack but I don’t agree.’
Everyone's wondering about how Barcelona-bound La Masia graduate Oriol Romeu is set to orchestrate his comeback in Barcelona, but nobody is asking the more interesting question — how do Girona actually replace Oriol Romeu, who's single-handedly provided balance to the midfield?
Barça fans are attached to the Camp Nou. It's something material. It's a stadium, a bunch of metallic pieces with some seats and a field.
But it's not the material that culés feel are connected to. It's the memories this field has brought throughout the years.
Give me the carries of Frenkie de Jong, the passes of Joshua Kimmich, the brain of Philipp Lahm, the timing of Pedri, the presence of Bernardo Silva, the ball-striking of Pablo Torre, the +1 presence of Karim Benzema, the late-runs of Marcos Llorente.
Football I like.
This was a further confirmation of how Lewandowski's presence prevents Barça from progressing. Subbing him off and introducing Roque showed the big difference in how the team flows in the final third - Robert had the best conditions possible.
He's only 22.
He has 13 goal contributions in 20 matches, arrived mid-season and is far from his best. This, only, is the beginning of Ferran's adventure at Barcelona.
He is critiqued and rightly so, but he should be praised where he's done well: And he's done really well.
He lacked professionalism. He didn't impress at Schalke 04, which was normal given the club situation.
The club wasn't wrong to let him go: Fans are wrong for refusing the reality that maturing in football is perfectly normal. He grew up and I'm glad for him.
Do you guys remember former Barca player Todibo?
190cm tall. Currently ranks top 2% for recoveries made, top 7% for successful take-ons, and top 6% for tackles won (centre backs)
A modern centre back. Rumors said he lacked professionalism & had a poor attitude..
I passionately dislike nostalgic-classicist accounts that spread mis/disinformation on social media.
It's labelled as a pure, willing branding when it's out of necessity. If the author had 1% of knowledge, he'd know how necessary it's become — some parts were falling apart.
That Busquets clip is still bonkers to me. It's truly unbelievable. I literally downloaded and stare at it for hours. When scanning is usually the way to go, he doesn't do it a single time. Yet his awareness is 10x better than anyone.
Enjoy him while you can.
Qué jugador.
Pedri can't be having less the ball than Frenkie de Jong. As good as the Dutchman is, Pedri is the orchestrator, and FdJ very much the disruption element.
The problem wasn't actually the number of touches. It was the quality of the actions.
Barça forgot there's no Dembélé.
So we're not even waiting for the massive injury crisis this year?
> no FdJ
> no Pedri
> No Raphinha
> No Lewandowski
And in the next UCL game, no Gavi.
Barça's yearly injury curse is back at it again! Will be fun to see how Xavi solves (or doesn't) it.
I admire a culture, and I think this should be talked about more often, that can allow itself to say “I prefer my own homeland.”
Anyone that knows a little bit about the Basques knows it's justified. They're truly unique, and that's not easy in the 21st century.
If anyone wants to understand why Pedri is valued so highly, and why his absence is one of the main reasons - just look tonight. Changed it all, he's actually perfect at finding that verticality - at the right time. He embellishes and embraces the velocity of thought.
Great statement by Sevilla. Condemning Luis Rubiales from start to finish, starting by the damned kiss, expressing support for J. Hermoso, insisting that Rubiales needs to be fired as his actions “damage the image of our football”.
Firm statement that shows everything's wrong.
Find it insane that football history will seem to remember Kolo Muani for his shot against Martinez that denied France the winner instead of the stellar season he's been having with Eintracht Frankfurt
An example of how football refuses to forgive instead of praising.
Rodri, on Gavi and Pedro featuring this often as starters:
“The manager has no fear putting them in and it’s paying off. They also have a big margin for improvement – they’re going to be very important for the national team.”
They're never a finished product.
Sergio Busquets, on playing in the Tercera and why it was his favorite:
“It was like you’re playing with friends, without pressure, without the spotlight, with a coach who was the best in the world but at that time no one knew it.”
Who knew they'd dominate the world?
I know it's early, but there's so many that maintain Carlo Ancelotti doesn't know his tactics and is just a good man manager, yet nobody's mentioning when he's absolutely beautifully profiled Bellingham in that advanced role that's seen him score.
Real Sociedad have just reached the UCL for the first time in a bajillion years, and Zubimendi is a key part of the project — along the likes of Mikel Merino, Takefusa Kubo and Le Normand — among others.
Leaving when you potentially can mark history would be foolish.
It's all in the head. Paris can always field Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr and Lionel Messi together.
But this team will always get torn apart until it realizes the importance of pressing in modern football. Thirty years ago, this team could have existed and won in style.
Pedri, on the difference of his role with La Roja in opposition to Barça:
“At Barcelona I play more between the lines, where I can score goals and make assists, but here, I touch the ball more”
Different ecosystems, different roles and dynamics, different players.
La Liga is really in a higher form of entertainment, a new level, a new style.
— Girona, the surprise. How long will it last? Nobody truly knows. But it's almost November and they're first.
—Real Madrid, the variable. Varied output, unpredictable, very fun to watch.
Barcelona's problem isn't that Xavi is unable to solve problems.
It's that Xavi is lonely, no support. He needs people to advise him, to help him out. You can't expect a coach to do everything.
He lacks in the development of youngsters, due to his own experience.
The difference between Lamine Yamal's performances before and during Real Betis is that he is getting to know his own body - and as such, against Betis, opened a Pandora Box - and got confident, as he should be. This is why confidence is so important.
Perfect acceptable to mention Araújo's fatal mistake whilst not scapegoating him. Between Xavi's red card, Joao's error, Lewandowski's misses, and many other individual mistakes, there is hardly one man to scapegoat.
Henry's absolutely on point. I remember when he first said that Xavi has done a great job, and being laughed at for his claim.
Now suddenly, everyone's screaming masterclass after the Paris Saint-Germain game. All you need is a few games for people to overturn their opinions.
Christensen @ DM is a clear positive - not because of the player himself, but because of the liberating consequences it has on the interiors - and the first to notice it is none other than Gündogan. Just opens a whole range of patterns to use/occupy space.
Nobody denies that there's great opportunity at Barça. But everybody knows that Barça isn't a drama-free environment; much the opposite, actually.
Think it's genuinely very wise from Zubimendi. He's on a great start, and the affection he has shows — he's not alone in that.
The United States will host many tournaments within three years (!), but you won't hear about how tragic the government has been (which was a main topic with Qatar) when it comes to human rights — domestically and internationally.
The world is a funny place.
Nobody comes close to Luis Suarez. He did whatever he wanted in front of the goal, arguably the most diverse range of goal-scoring abilities.
Luis Suarez would bully any defence. People are forgetting what a career he has had, man.
🇧🇷 Barça director Deco: "Don't forget that Chelsea and Arsenal both wanted to sign Raphinha. He ended up playing more than Dembélé with goals and assists".
"I'd love to sign Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Deco but they don't exist anymore or they're not available on the market".
Lamine Yamal does not run, he glides and slides, with iceskates. That goal is not the product of complex thinking, but of regular flow.
Lamine Yamal is the best 1v1 provocator and naturally creates spaces, having a simple but efficient decision-making process.
Pablo Torre is impressive. Agile with a low-center of gravity, he's extremely mature w.r.t his age when it comes to movement. If him roaming high up also means he moves *too much* at times, it also means he's very hard to track between the lines — his strength.
Barça fans need to raise their expectations when it comes to profiling — else you're back to square one. It's the reason I don't support a move for Cancelo knowing Fresneda is on the market.
Cancelo brings too many problems. Both offensively and defensively, he's an issue.
Stop commenting on personal lives.
You know nothing, it's not your role, and it's extremely toxic & arguably condescending for no real reason.
You don't need to know nor comment on everything (and there's probably a far deal of fake news in all of this).
Xavi:
"What Simeone looks for is contrary to what we look for. He understands football in a different way. He feels comfortable without the ball, and I feel desperate on the touchline when my team doesn't have the ball".
Football was never a right or wrong, but differences.
Dimitar Berbatov:
"Every child had their own sad story. Mine was that we didn't have a football. People ask me, how is that possible when your father was a footballer? Well, I don't know if he did not have money, or if they didn't give money to him, I don't know."
Lionel Messi and The Beauty Of Struggle – why, independently of Argentina's next performance, Lionel Messi's struggles will remain historic, memorable, and romantic in their own way.
A free, non-tactical newsletter for the first time.
Barcelona's disappointment at the Camp Nou (2-2) v Manchester United saw several problems with an isolated Frenkie de Jong, inviting the pressure that EtH commanded from Manchester United.
They're set to play at Old Trafford without Pedri (Injured) and Gavi (suspended).
Gavi's reinventing himself and he's showing me how wrong I was him — spooky JdP profiling.
I misjudged him, thinking he shouldn't be all too deep because I feared for his tempo-judgement. But he's actually improvement so much in his pass selections — insanely good.
Messi's legs might not be able to replicate what he used to do ten years ago, but in the words of Paco Seirul•lo:
“The physique has limits, the cognitive abilities don't.”
Lionel Messi has struck once again.
However important to remember Australia, brilliant campaign.
To all the ignorants out there: Catalan is literally french and Spanish together. They're literally at the border with France.
Of course Laporta can speak french.
Marcus Thuram's availability on the market should be a no-brainer deal with low risk with regards to value for a majority of the elite clubs out there.
In a scarce market of
#9
's, Thuram combines athletic acceleration, through-balls, above average scoring & still has a ceiling.
Dome Torrent, on low-blocks:
"These are demanding scenarios, where you have to work well on details, how you reduce uncertainty for your players in the different situations that can be found, to give possible exits or guidelines according to how the opponent conditions you".
Barcelona's performance against Real Madrid is nothing short of shameful - not because of the result (which is shambolic) but due to how Barcelona set itself up for failure.
Barcelona's lack of coordination in a high-line (thinking about Peña/Araújo/Balde) was doomed to fail.
Zubimendi probably was the most impressive today. He's been at the heart of Real Sociedad's build-up for a while now, but he also kept his cool throughout the game, which arguably wasn't necessarily easy.
Have no doubt he's the best DM in Spain as of right now. Not even close.
Pedri's evolution is what's been talked about in the past months in this account and in general Barça Twitter. He's more decisive ever as he sees the final third more and more, and he's gotten accustomed to the responsibilities that came from it.
No it doesn't - I've said it multiple times. Barça basically only have Laporta x Deco for the sporting side mostly which is...nothing. Barça doesn't have enough board members to construct the footballing project.
This is Barça's actual problem. Not the coaches.
@jdeposicion
Kai, based on everything you know about football, and Barcelona, and all the stuff you read and analyze deeply, answer me this: does the sporting board meets the standards of our club? Same question about the financial side, even though I feel like I know the answer.
