Beautiful discovery science - still so much to learn about the fundamentals of how the immune system- and just about every other body system - works. Congratulations on the team for solving this highly challenging problem - all good things take time!
1/ Just how are immune responses started? Published in @Nature, an international team led by @MonashBDI's @RossjohnLab & @MRC_TIDU's @davislab_oxford, made possible with expertise from @CryoEM_Monash, has solved the structure of a key “trigger”. More

Congratulations to Inwon Lee for some great observations and beautiful movies. When investigating how mitochondria move in eggs and embryos, we found Trak2 caused aggregation into 'mitoballs'. Nuclear position, shape and function were all disrupted and embryos failed to develop.
A study studying cell organisation led by Inwon Lee, @DeepakMonash, @jcarrollmonash in @PNASNews reveals that disruption of #mitochondrial distribution by forming 'mitoballs' displaces nuclei & disrupts early #embryo development: https://t.co/OE9c3bhSjh 10.1073/pnas.2317316121

I am immensely honoured and humbled to join the Australian Academy of Science. I have been fortunate to have worked with a team of incredible scientists and be supported by @Monash BDI, @MonasUni & @LionsEyeInstAus. I look forward to more discoveries together!
@MonashUni @MonashBiol @Monash_Science @The_DE_Lab Correction: Prof Mariapia Degli-Esposti FAA FAHMS is a world-class immunologist who was fascinated by biology from a very young age. Her work has since provided foundational insights into the functioning of the immune system and its response to viruses, including components that

Beautiful work @azelle_hawdon and @LabZenker adding another dimension to this all important stage of development.
Did you know that cells of the preimplantation mouse embryo assign RNA and organelles to specific subcellular regions? Read our new paper in @NatureComms to find out how subcellular asymmetries regulate cell fate: https://t.co/LgALHmcdWq

How insightful - a process to reign in inappropriate and over-regulation - “Focal Point 1: Regulation should adopt a proportionate approach to risks and benefits.” Getting this wrong impedes research and innovation. What’s your best example?

Congratulations Michelle - great to see your ‘uncertainty principle’ has evolved from an educational research idea to something that we can all relate too across all sectors - especially after the last three years! Look forward to reading it!
