When I started research in astronomy, I didn't get why grad students had [insert long object phonebook names] memorized. Now, after staring at the same 5 galaxies FOR THE PAST YEAR 🥲, I can tell you not only their names, but when they wake up, and how they like their coffee.

? 🤔 Thanks to a cosmic magnifying glass effect, the gravity of a massive galaxy cluster is warping two distant interacting galaxies (a face-on spiral and a dusty red galaxy) behind it, making them appear multiple times, tracing a familiar shape. https://t.co/R423bnKtUF

It's great that Iwájú has Nigerian voice actors. It's important to leverage the talent that already exists in Africa when telling our stories, and the West has largely failed to do so. I still cringe whenever I hear people pronounce Lagos as "Lah-goes" in @Marvel's Civil War. 🥴

As a child growing up in Accra, it would have been ✨a dream ✨ to have a hover car or a robotic crime-fighting pet like the main character, Tola does (assuming ECG works 🙃). She even has a gadget that can braid hair in seconds! Anyway, fantastic series. Highly recommend.

The futuristic angle was really neat too and was done without minimizing the very real issues that plague Nigeria (and sadly, much of West Africa) e.g., income inequality, power generation (NEPA 👀) issues, crippling traffic, and child kidnapping.

It's clear just how much work went into making sure the series was an accurate portrayal of Nigeria. I loved seeing all the little details like the Yoruba and pidgin thrown here and there, ankara, coral beads, puff puff and other street food, and even pure water sachets.

Just found out about #IWÁJÚ and I am blown away. It's amazing to see African stories on the big screen being told by Africans and for Africans. It's authentic, thought-provoking, and overall simply inspiring. Congrats to @Kugalimedia. I hope to see more content like this!

Very excited to have been involved in this paper led by Anna de Graaff that hit the arxiv today, where we present the new record holder the most distant massive quiescent galaxy to be spectroscopically confirmed (for now): https://t.co/ypbSNmOtI2

These are some of the Twi translations by @GhanaNLP Khaya AI that human evaluators highlighted as “remarkable”. Even in cases where an equivalent word doesn’t exist, such as “manifold” it comes up with an equivalent phrase that explains it 🤯 try it now - https://t.co/B7LOLONq6k
