Why the fuck did Epic buy Bandcamp. Why is it gutting it now. Why is it never enough to just have a good website that does one good thing.
BREAKING: Epic Games lays off roughly 50% of Bandcamp amidst its sale to Songtradr. The Fortnite maker purchased the music platform just last year but is now spinning it off amid massive cost cutting.

The Finals has an utterly inscrutable vibe. Its sole defining aesthetic is "the idea of esports", but in moments it almost channels Mirror's Edge's vibrant urban architecture. It's put tremendous effort into physics and environmental destruction, but cheaps out with AI voices.
The Finals is such a weird game because so much of it feels like a cynical cash grab but it also feels like something from an EA sizzle reel 8 years ago and the destructible physics are fantastic.

"A team of 3 on a dime" with expensive camera equipment, costuming, studio space, an existing pipeline for distributing online video to an audience, and artwork stolen from a full anime production house for stable diffusion "referencing".
Before/after of Corridor's latest AI video is wild. They shot video on greenscreen, made virtual sets in Unreal, then reskinned it to anime by finetuning Stable Diffusion. Net result? 120 VFX shots done by a team of 3 on a dime. Bravo! This is a milestone in creative technology๐งต

we finally living in a world where "how to disable police robots without getting your bones crushed" advice is showing up on the feed.
PSA: if you or someone nearby are being brutalized by a police Spot robot and can get a hand or something underneath, grab this handle and yank it forward. This releases the battery, instantly disabling the robot. Keep your hands away from joints, Spot WILL crush your fingers.

the SBMM discourse is so nakedly driven by people who need to farm easier games to fuel the Content Mill and falls apart immediately the second you consider what it's like for the newer players getting stomped on.
call of duty streamers getting mad about SBMM is inarguably the funniest gaming discourse. beautiful content every time. grown men furious that as they get stronger they must fight stronger opponents. listen to yourselves man. what would goku think.

bro how is your takeaway from this "we need to double down on live service.". you spent *eight years* on Concord and it died on drop.
sony is shutting down firewalk studios, the developer of concord. the game launched a couple months ago and was taken offline two weeks later following poor sales. at the time, firewalk said it would "explore options" to reach players. now here we are.

@Dracosfire7 oh no yeah like I cannot imagine it's great to be a dev on this game and watching all your work get kneecapped by publisher overreach.

Game characters are not, and *should not*, attempt to be fully dynamic all-knowing facsimiles of people. They are better for being deliberate, for every line being carefully chosen by a real human writer.
if the NPC actually could talk with you about anything, maybe then you'd finally realise that you play games bc they're limited and contained and not at all like real life.

Very funny to see that he did actually get banned from matchmaking for talking about Deadlock. But people are already talking about Deadlock. They let you freely invite any and all of your friends. There are no guards against leaking beyond a "please don't talk about this" pop-up.
We played Valveโs secret new shooter: Deadlock. Itโs like Overwatch, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 all baked into a pie

While this does show more "polished" play, I'm so here for them showing Skate this early, in these greyboxed prototype clips. Keep demystifying game dev thanks.

Nobody's confused. I have never seen a community *less* confused. Everyone perfectly understands the shit you're trying to pull, this is an unprecedented moment of everyone at every scale of game development telling you this dogshit policy needed to be rolled back a week ago.
We have heard you. We apologize for the confusion and angst the runtime fee policy we announced on Tuesday caused. We are listening, talking to our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes to the policy. We will share an update in a couple of.

So, big news time. Today is my last day at @pcgamer - and, for the foreseeable, my last day in games media! After 5 years of writing about games, it's time to start making them again. After a wee break, I'll be helping @inkleStudios.as a level designer on @AHighlandSong !!

Don't like J. K. Rowling? Then don't play Hogwarts Legacy. But to act like you're better than people who want to play a Harry Potter game? Literally go fuck yourself.

This has been getting dunked in in some circles all day, but I feel the thing about this clip is less the visual fidelity being remarkable and more just. We don't often see the graphics developments we've made used to render deeply mundane, normal, real world spaces.
oh my god amsterdam looks *incredibly* realistic in the new call of duty โ almost canโt believe this is a video game

Said as much at the Edinburgh one but it's wild how every pro-trans protest is a roaring, diverse crowd, while terfs can barely muster a half-dozen miserable middle-class English columnists. We're winning.
This isn't even the whole protest! There are *so so many* people here! It's incredible and the roar of the crowd can be heard throughout the entire city centre.
