And, unfortunately, the main solution for this is for NZ media to refuse to run these stories in ways that promote reactionary politics and racism. Unlucky for us that despite recent "apologies" NZ's major legacy outlets are deeply racist, particularly against Māori .
The thing with this anti-Māori strategy is that it provides endless content to attach their attacks to. The govt can pick any of the countless policies, roles and laws that incorporate te ao Māori in some way and instantly generate headlines that divide, distract and deflect.
