I am so incredibly excited about this publication! Motivated by a simple idea—design and build a low-cost, easily reproduced #open water level monitor for high school classes—we made a device that comes close to matching professional commercial sensors!.

I will always remember 2024 as the defining year of my career: the majority of my students are now younger than The Day After Tomorrow.

@EPA lists "Increased risk of some cancers, including prostate, kidney, and testicular cancers" and "Interference with the body’s natural hormones" as two of "What We Know about Health Effects." . So maybe we do know why. ?.

In the last 72 hours, I've watched these headlines hit and watched a graduate student present on the harms of PFAS. Can't help but wonder if there's a connection here.

We're doing this wrong, America. Only one of these needs to be setting annual records; the other three are just killing more people. "Average new vehicle fuel economy, horsepower, weight, and footprint are all at record highs".

My biggest fear about CO₂ removal (CDR) isn't that someone will try to deploy it at scale now (who will pay trillions of dollars for that?) but that voters and decision-makers will think we have magical solutions and don't need to decarbonize ASAP.

The show must go on! Student presentations for @UNCW_EOS OCN 350 (Advanced Oceanography) were interrupted by a fire alarm. Evacuated to drizzling outdoor conditions. I asked the students what they wanted to do, and they opted to carry on, using an iPad for outdoor presentations!
